Animal Crossing Player Reimagines One Of Mulan’s Most Iconic Moments

In yet another well-crafted tribute, one Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has recreated an iconic scene from the original 1998 animated film Mulan. Fans have been paying homage to many childhood classics using New Horizons’ in-depth character and island customization tools over the past year, with each one being more imaginative than the last.

These have ranged from recreations of the title sequences to shows like Courage The Cowardly Dog and Avatar The Last Airbender to remakes of entire episodes like SpongeBob SquarePants’s fan-favorite “Band Geeks.” On the Disney side of things, one fan re-built the Scare Floor basement and Boo’s room from the 2001 Pixar classic Monsters Inc, while another remade Andy’s Room from Toy Story. Now, yet another skilled player has drawn inspiration from the House Of Mouse, albeit from the 2D offerings of the studio’s 90s Renaissance period.

A couple of days ago, Reddit user Melhunnibee posted their fan-made tribute to Mulan on the r/AnimalCrossing subreddit. It depicts a moment from the “Reflection” musical number, in which Mulan walks past her family’s pond as she laments her failure to impress the matchmaker and bring honor to her family, as well as questioning what her greater path is. Everything from the scene is recreated near-perfectly in Melhunnibee’s image, from Mulan’s signature dress being appropriately reflected in the water to the ancient Chinese statue behind her. This Animal Crossing tribute comes right after news that Mulan’s live-action remake is finally going to see release on Disney+ for paying subscribers next month, after the film suffered countless delays due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. While many fans are excited to see the ancient Chinese legend of Mulan told more accurately in a live-action format, others have decried the movie for removing the 1998 animated original’s iconic musical numbers and fan-favorite characters like Mushu and Li Shang, in addition to star Liu Yifei’s controversial comments regarding the Hong Kong protests earlier this year.

Nonetheless, the original 1998 version of Mulan remains a beloved favorite among 90s-era Disney fans, as evidenced by u/Melhunnibee’s rendition of one of the film’s most emotionally resonant moments in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The level of detail in this recreation is impressive, even if it’s not an exact one-to-one copy of the film, and is yet another testament to the talent of Animal Crossing’s widespread and dedicated player base.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now for Nintendo Switch.
