Animal Crossing: New Horizons Players Want New Leaf Plaza Customization

Although Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows for a customizable experience, some fans would like a few more options. No matter how much time players put into making their island unique, all central plazas and residential centers look exactly the same. Some fans on Reddit are now reminiscing about the remodel options available in New Leaf, the game’s predecessor.

One of the biggest selling points for New Horizons was allowing players to customize their Animal Crossing island from the ground up. Previously, it was only possible to place furniture and other items on display in the player’s house. While the village itself could be decorated with flora, pathing, and Public Works Projects, players were mostly confined to their abodes. This new level of decorating has, overall, been welcomed by new and old players alike.

However, a thread on Reddit started by IcyOrio shows that more than a few gamers wish for the return of customizable buildings. In New Leaf, players could shell out Bells in exchange for a new facade for Town Hall. While the change was entirely superficial and limited to the exterior, there were multiple styles and aesthetics available. With New Horizons‘ emphasis on individuality, it’s surprising the feature hasn’t returned.

Anyone else wish we could customize our plazas in NH like we could customize town hall in NL? from AnimalCrossing

In the comments, other New Horizons players are lamenting the loss of the feature. Some are complaining about how the brick pattern of the plaza clashes with the rest of their theming. Others wish they could just move its location, as it’s placed at the start of the game. A few are also recalling the features of the spinoff Animal Crossing title Happy Home Designer. While it wasn’t a standard title, it did allow for a similar amount of customization that New Horizons players would find familiar.

It is incredibly odd that, for how much freedom players are given, the plaza remains static and unchanging from island to island. Several features from New Leaf have slowly been making their return in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The ability to go diving or use the Dream Suite were base features in the previous title, both of which were added post-launch to NH. Other NPCs and holiday events have also made their way back over the past year. With years of updates supposedly planned, it wouldn’t be impossible for Nintendo to add the ability to change up the plaza.
