The new fall update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduced new Halloween-themed activities, items, and events for players to enjoy as they celebrate the spookiest time of the year. Players are able to dress up in costume and change their skin tone and eye color. All their villagers will also dress up for Halloween in these costumes. Players can collect candy to give to their friends, villagers, and a new NPC, Jack the czar of Halloween. They can also decorate their islands with pumpkins and spooky decorations, which they can grow, purchase, or craft. Like other holidays, Halloween comes with its own DIY furniture set, called the Spooky Set.
Normally, players will obtain DIY recipes from their resident villagers, from notable NPCs who stop by the island, or from popping balloons with a slingshot. Likewise, players will need to find all the Spooky Set DIY recipes to craft the seasonal items. Many of these items require pumpkins, which players can now grow in many different colors and varieties from a starter plant they purchase at Nook’s Cranny or from Leif. How to Get New Spooky DIY Recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
There are three ways players can get new Spooky Set DIY recipes in Animal Crossing, and this depends on the DIY item. Like the other DIY recipes in the game, players can access these by speaking to other villagers, popping balloons, and finding bottles throughout October. This is the only way for players to access the Spooky Fence item, since fences cannot be purchased.
If players aren’t interested in crafting every item in the set, they can also purchase Spooky Set items from the upgraded Nook’s Cranny all through the month of October. The items players will be able to find ready-made to purchase are:
- Spooky Arch
- Spooky Candy Set
- Spooky Chair
- Spooky Lantern
- Spooky Lantern Set
- Spooky Scarecrow
- Spooky Standing Lamp
- Spooky Table
- Spooky Tower
When players get Spooky Set items and DIYs, they will use orange pumpkins by default. However, all the items can be customized using green, white, or yellow pumpkins if the player wants some variety. They will need to grow pumpkins in these colors to craft spooky items with color variations.
Then, on Halloween night, players can earn the remaining items and a few more DIY recipes by giving out Halloween candy to their villagers. These are exclusive to Halloween night and cannot be found any other way. The items players will receive are:
- Spooky Flooring
- Spooky Garland
- Spooky Rug
- Spooky Table Setting
- Spooky Wall
If players share some Lollipops with Jack when he visits, they will also receive two more exclusive items and recipes. These are:
- Spooky Carriage
- Spooky Wand
This is the only way for players to unlock these two final Spooky Set items.
