Animal Crossing: How to Earn Heart Crystals (& What They Are For)

Wedding bells are ringing as the season of love begins for the many villagers of Animal Crossing: New Horizons! This timed event will last the month of June and while plenty of players might blaze their own trails and make their getaways a little bit more romantic in their own way, the game does provide some cool new activities to take part in and things to earn as well.

One of these new additions are Heart Crystals. While they might look a bit like Valentine’s Day candy, they are actually an event-specific currency. Wedding Season has only just begun, but this guide will explain what Heart Crystals are and what to do with them after you get them.

Getting Heart Crystals in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: How to Earn Heart Crystals (& What They Are For)

It’s hard to miss the invitation to the wedding festivities in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The first time the game is turned on in June, the player will receive a phone call from Harvey (along with a bevy of new bugs to collect). He’ll invite the player to his groovy island where the Wedding Season activities can then be completed. This, so far, consists of holding a photoshoot for everyone’s favorite alpaca couple, Reese and Cyrus.

Heart Crystals are then given by completing the photoshoot. As of now, up to 11 Heart Crystals can be earned per photoshoot. The number of Heart Crystals given is determined by how closely you meet the happy couple’s expectations. This in itself is not too challenging to do (the alpacas are straightforward about what they want for their anniversary photoshoot). Simply follow their color-specific requests and fill the room with decorations, which are all available for free for the photo-shoot. Snap a picture when finished and voila!

After a job well done, Reese will hand over the sparkly new currency, and the player can then use them to purchase wedding related items from Cyrus. New items are added every day (and with subsequent new photoshoots to complete). The old items don’t go away, though, so the player can always come back to get that white wedding flooring if it’s not affordable the first go around.

Of course, the player can always horde their Heart Crystals and use them as decoration in their home. They are quite sparkly. Nevertheless, it’s probably best to spend them while Wedding Season is still in effect. At the very least, the wedding-specific furniture and decorations can always be sold at Nook’s Cranny for bells.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
