Angelina Jolie Reveals Why She’s Barely In Movies Anymore

Angelina Jolie reveals why she’s now barely appearing in any movies. Best known for starring in the likes of Girl, Interrupted, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Maleficent, among others, Jolie has been a staple of big Hollywood movies for more than two decades. Recently, the star appeared in Those Who Wish Me Dead and Eternals in 2021, but her presence in movies has been noticeably reduced in the past few years.

Now, in a recent interview with Vogue, Jolie explains why she’s no longer appearing quite as often in movies. In addition to focusing on a new socially-conscious business venture, Atelier Jolie, the actor reveals that a period of personal transition has resulted in “only taking jobs that [don’t] require long shoots.” Read Jolie’s full comment below:

“Now I wonder if I don’t know what my style is because I’m still understanding who I am at 48. I guess I’m in transition as a person. I feel a bit down these days. I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade, in a way, which I don’t want to get into.

We had a lot of healing to do. We’re still finding our footing. I think part of [Atelier Jolie] has also been therapeutic for me—to work in a creative space with people you trust and to rediscover yourself. I’m hoping to change many aspects of my life. And this is the forward-facing one.”

Although Jolie may be investing less of her time into acting, the actor still has a few projects on the horizon. The actor is set to reprise her role as Tigress for the fourth time in Kung Fu Panda 4, a role that she first played back in the original film in 2008. The actor’s IMDb states that she will also be reprising her role as Maleficent for a third film in the Disney franchise, but this project has yet to be officially confirmed.

Jolie is also slated to appear in Every Note Played, a drama about an ALS-stricken piano teacher whose estranged wife takes on the duty of caring for him. The actor is attached to a film called Maria, which would see her star as real-life opera singer Maria Callas during her final days in 1970s Paris. Other than Kung Fu Panda 4, however, none of these films are actually dated or have started production, so it’s not clear when they might actually release.

Jolie may not be acting as much anymore, but certain recent efforts suggest she’s still more than capable of carrying an action film. Those Who Wish Me Dead, for example, a mid-budget Taylor Sheridan thriller, sees the actor return to her action hero roots, playing a survival expert who finds herself caught up in a criminal conspiracy. Jolie isn’t quite done with the genre yet, with reports emerging last month that she is attached to star in action thriller Maude v Maude opposite Halle Berry.
