Anakin’s Return Means Star Wars Must Finally Tell Ahsoka’s Missing Jedi Story

Anakin’s Return Means Star Wars Must Finally Tell Ahsoka’s Missing Jedi Story

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episode 4.

The return of Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka must finally explain Ahsoka’s missing Jedi story. Ahsoka’s old master appeared to her in the World Between Worlds at the conclusion of Ahsoka episode 4 in a reveal that had Star Wars viewers around the world cheering. It’s the first time Anakin and Ahsoka are meeting in live-action, after so many years spent together as master and apprentice in animation. The episode ending with this reveal, as well as the hype Star Wars is building around Ahsoka episode 5 with a limited theatrical release, has viewers waiting on the edges of their seats for more.

One thing Ahsoka episode 5 can address with the return of Anakin is a missing Jedi story Ahsoka’s had for nearly two years. Jedi are difficult to find around the galaxy following the tragedy of Order 66, and yet Ahsoka has been able to cross paths with Anakin’s son, Luke. Ahsoka getting to speak to Anakin again may be able to start unraveling this mystery, as the version of her master she’s just met is different from the one she knew during the Clone Wars era.

Ahsoka Is Finally Meeting The Redeemed Anakin Skywalker

Anakin’s Return Means Star Wars Must Finally Tell Ahsoka’s Missing Jedi Story

The prequel Star Wars trilogy was already complete by the time Ahsoka debuted as Anakin’s Padawan in the 2008 animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie. This caused many viewers to come to terms with the fact that Ahsoka would never cross paths with Anakin in live-action, as she was no longer present in his life when Anakin fell to the dark side and became Darth Vader. Her getting to reunite with a redeemed Anakin is a beautiful bookend to her story, especially after having to duel with Vader in Star Wars Rebels, but it does make a hole in Ahsoka’s story even more clear regarding her connection to the Skywalkers.

Star Wars Still Hasn’t Shown How Ahsoka First Met Luke

Ahsoka Tano and Luke Skywalker in The Book of Boba Fett

Ahsoka and Luke were seen together on Ossus in The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, where Ahsoka approached Luke with the gift Din Djarin had brought for Grogu. They even shared a conversation about whether or not Grogu’s heart was in his training, something Ahsoka likened directly to Anakin. This discussion, however, implied that Ahsoka and Luke had already met before, especially when she told Mando that she was “a friend of the family.” Despite this, Star Wars still hasn’t shown when or how Ahsoka met Luke, or why Ahsoka stationed herself on Ossus with him to await Din’s arrival. Luke was the only one who could redeem the Anakin that Ahsoka just crossed paths with in the World Between Worlds, which will hopefully unravel this mystery once and for all.

It can be assumed that if Ahsoka didn’t catch the hint about Luke’s existence from hearing his last name during his time spent serving the Rebellion, then Bail Organa caught her up to speed when he saw her at Padme’s funeral in Tales of the Jedi and recruited her to the Rebellion’s earliest efforts. He could have thought Ahsoka to be a lending hand in protecting both Luke and Leia if she wanted to, and perhaps she reached out to Luke when she thought the time was right, especially when he took on Grogu as his first student. The redeemed Anakin crossing Ahsoka’s path in Ahsoka episode 4 might at last bring some clarity to all these speculations about how Ahsoka and Luke met, and could even bring shed light on why Ahsoka visited Anakin’s son on Ossus.

Ahsoka releases new episodes Tuesdays at 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET on Disney+.
