Ana de Armas Replaces Scarlett Johansson In Chris Evans Romance Movie

Golden Globe nominee Ana de Armas is replacing Scarlett Johansson in the Chris Evans-starring romantic adventure movie Ghosted at Apple. Exact plot details for the film are yet to be known, but the film is said to be an exploration of its respective genres akin to the Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner-starring hit Romancing the Stone. The film will see Dexter Fletcher, still fresh off the success of the Elton John biopic Rocketman, step in to the director’s chair.

Development on Ghosted was first announced this past summer with a pitch that began at Skydance and was acquired by Apple shortly thereafter. The film is set to be produced by Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger alongside Jules Daly, Evans and the film’s writers, Deadpool and Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Though Ghosted initially looked to be a Marvel reunion between Captain America’s Chris Evans and Black Widow’s Scarlett Johansson, there looks to be a change to a different kind of reunion.

A few months after the two signed on to lead the film, Deadline has brought word that Scarlett Johansson has departed the Chris Evans-starring romantic adventure movie Ghosted. Ana de Armas has signed on to replace Johansson in the project, who “amicably exited” the movie due to a scheduling conflict for an undisclosed project. The team is looking to begin production on the film sometime in February.

While some audiences may have been looking forward to seeing Evans and Johansson reunite on screen following their respective departures from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the pairing of the former with de Armas should make for an interesting new approach to the film. Evans and de Armas were previously seen together in Rian Johnson’s celebrated murder mystery Knives Out. Though unlike Ghosted, the 2019 film saw the two at odds with one another upon the revelation of Evans’ Ransom being the true culprit behind his grandfather’s death and attempting to kill de Armas’ innocent nurse Marta Cabrera.

It’s also interesting to note that Ghosted will mark de Armas’ first time stepping into an executive producer role on a project. The Cuban actress has enjoyed a steady climb in the film industry ranks over the past few years since her rise to stardom began in Blade Runner 2049, following it up with her Golden Globe-nominated performance in Knives Out and landing roles in such high-profile projects as No Time to Die, the Ben Affleck-led psychological thriller Deep Water and her second reunion with Evans for the Russo Brothers’ action-thriller The Gray Man. With production on Ghosted set to begin in February, one can hope further details for the romantic adventure will be right around the corner.
