American Gods Season 4’s Fate Could Be Decided By A New Amazon Show

American Gods Season 4’s Fate Could Be Decided By A New Amazon Show

The potential for a fourth season of American Gods largely hinges on the success of an upcoming Amazon Prime show set to continue the original series’ legacy. Although American Gods season 4 has yet to happen, creators Neil Gaiman and Ricky Whittle are confident the success of their upcoming show on Amazon will provide them with an opportunity to bring the show back and ensure it receives a proper conclusion. Among a number of issues, American Gods constantly changing showrunners was one of the biggest contributing factors to the show’s unceremonious conclusion.

Based on the 2001 Gaiman novel of the same name, American Gods‘ first season enjoyed plaudits from critics and viewers for its faithfulness to the source material while also expanding on the novel’s philosophical musings about world deities and their impact on human life. However, the constant changing of hands creatively resulted in a significant reduction in quality over the show’s three-season run which, ultimately and unfortunately, led to its premature cancelation. Nevertheless, the upcoming American Gods spin-off TV show inspires hope for a proper conclusion to the original series.

Despite season 3 of American Gods premiering in 2021 to lackluster reception, the upcoming Anansi Boys spin-off TV show has the potential to reignite interest in the fantasy drama series. Based on the 2005 Gaiman novel of the same name, Anansi Boys will see the Ghanaian trafficker god, Mr. Nancy die, which prompts his sons, Fat Charlie and Spider, to go on a quest to find one another after being separated at birth. Although Anansi Boys is not a sequel to American Gods, it does feature many of the same characters, which makes cameo appearances a possibility.

Anansi Boys‘ unique approach to its narrative structure via weaving in characters from American Gods is great because it provides an organic way to connect the new story’s characters and events to those featured prominently in the original show. Furthermore, Anansi Boys‘ potential success would be the perfect way to determine whether a fourth season of American Gods could happen. With Amazon Prime’s track record of taking greater risks regarding the depictions of violence, maturer themes, and better written characters of color, Anansi Boys is already positioned to do well.

Why Anansi Boys Could Determine The Future Of The Other Neil Gaiman Show

Anansi Boys can expand the lore of American Gods and even ensure its return if it’s successful.

Anansi Boys‘s success is tantamount to American Gods returning because it features many of the same thought-provoking themes and messages that are common in all of Gaiman’s work. While American Gods highlights the significance of gods from all around the world, which exposes audiences to different cultures, Anansi Boys specifically emphasizes the importance of the west African God, Anansi, while also expanding on Gaiman’s lore. Anansi Boys is crucial to American Gods because it highlights many important issues that Black people face, and if Anansi Boys proves successful, it can revitalize American Gods as well.
