Amazon’s Hanna Season 2 Trailer Reveals Her New Mission

Amazon premiered the new trailer for Hanna season 2, which premieres on the streaming service this July. The series, which is based on the 2011 Joe Wright film starring Saoirse Ronan, made its debut on the platform in early 2019, where it was met with a mostly positive reception from critics and audiences. Shortly after its premiere, Hanna was picked up for season 2 by Amazon. Though the series drew considerable inspiration from the original film, it contained some notable differences as well.

The series follows a young girl named Hanna (Esme Creed-Miles), who is raised and trained in the forest by her father, Erik Heller (Joel Kinnaman). After being discovered by the CIA, she attempts to evade capture and uncover the truth about who she really is. Hanna season 1 ran for eight episodes and also starred Mireille Enos, Khalid Abdalla, Katie Clarkson-Hill, Rhianne Barreto, and Noah Taylor. The violent, bloody ending of the Hanna season 1 involved the death of a major character and set up season 2 in a substantial way, forging a new future for Hanna.

A brand new trailer for Hanna season 2 has been released by Amazon, showing what the series has in store for the character in its sophomore outing. Season 2 will swiftly pick up where the first left off, with Hanna now aware she isn’t the only young woman equipped with her skills and abilities. The full trailer for Hanna season 2 is below.

Though season 1 certainly set up a myriad of roads for the series to take in the future, fans haven’t exactly known what to expect in Hanna season 2. Hanna’s mission in season 2 will be infiltrating a “second phase” facility that belongs to the sinister government agency named Utrax. This organization trains young, unassuming assassins and is responsible for the death of her father. Hanna’s tasked with taking the program down from the inside. Season 2 will include some new additions to cast, including Dermot Mulroney, who will be playing the head of Utrax, John Carmichael. Mulroney will be joined by Anthony Welsh, who will be playing his second in command, Leo Garner. Hanna season 2 will also see the return of Enos’ enemy-turned-ally, CIA agent Marissa Wiegler.

Though Wright’s 2011 film had tremendous potential to be turned into a riveting television series, the show’s first season turned out to be a lackluster disappointment. Though it made some refreshing changes to the original film, it struggled to maintain and flesh out an interesting story for its eight episodes. Hopefully, season 2 will remedy those storytelling problems and craft a narrative that capitalizes on Hanna’s potential as a character. This new look at season 2 is promising, showing a brand new dynamic between Hanna and Wiegler, and a story that seems far more engaging and accessible. That being said, fans will be able to see if Hanna season 2 delivers the goods when it premieres on Amazon Prime July 3rd.
