‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Trailer to Debut Ahead of ‘The Hobbit 2’ 3D Screenings

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Trailer to Debut Ahead of ‘The Hobbit 2’ 3D Screenings

The past few days have been a fruitful and exciting times for fans of Marvel comics and their movie adaptations. Last week we got a first look at Captain America: The Winter Soldier with a trailer that carried sharp overtones of a political thriller, and just today comic book fans were gifted with the first trailer for Twentieth Century Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, which was rife with fresh plot details and showcased some of the new characters being introduced to the film franchise.

Since Captain America: The Winter Soldier arrives in early April and X-Men: Days of Future Past will be in theaters in late May, the time is ripe for a good look at another 2014 Marvel sequel whose release date falls directly between them: The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Aside from some viral marketing that has teased the inclusion of various Marvel villains, there hasn’t been much in the way of official promotional material for this second installment of the recently rebooted sequel, and the latest hints suggest there might be a while to go before we see a proper trailer.

Director Marc Webb, who documented the entire production process for The Amazing Spider Man 2 by sharing a photo for every day of filming on his Twitter account, is once again the go-to source for news and updates about the film. In a his latest tweet, he made the following statement:

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Trailer to Debut Ahead of ‘The Hobbit 2’ 3D Screenings

For the seriously uncool people who aren’t fluent in Tolkien’s Dwarvish, the sentence reads, “WATCH FOR ‘THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2’ TRAILER IN FRONT OF ‘THE HOBBIT’ IN 3D.” It’s just a shame that there isn’t an Dwarvish-language poster to accompany it; Spider-Man’s name looks pretty great written in runes.

Middle-earth might be a long way away from New York City, but both movies are in the broad geographical region of geekdom. They also both happen to be sequels to movies that occupied respectable places in 2012’s top ten box office successes, and Marvel fans who were on the fence about seeing The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug might just be convinced by the offer of an early look at Spider-Man’s next outing.

On the downside, if the trailer that debuts ahead of The Desolation of Smaug is the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, then this means there’s still over six weeks to go before we’ll get a proper look at the movie. Seeing what Jamie Foxx looks like in action as Electro on a massive theater screen is definitely an exciting prospect; if only we didn’t have to wait until December for it.
