All Of Us Are Dead Season 2’s Story Will Justify The Show’s Biggest Nam-Ra Change

All Of Us Are Dead Season 2’s Story Will Justify The Show’s Biggest Nam-Ra Change

All of Us Are Dead made a significant change to Nam-ra’s character compared to the webtoon, and the upcoming season 2 will make it clear why. Netflix’s K-drama series about a zombie apocalypse that begins in a high school is based on the webtoon Now In Our School by Joo Dong-geun. Similar to several other K-dramas based on a webtoon, All of Us Are Dead keeps the premise of the original story but also makes some big changes to the source material.

For example, it is heavily implied that the zombie virus is of alien origin in the webtoon, whereas in the show it was created by Lee Byeong-chan. The fate of some of the All of Us Are Dead characters also doesn’t match their webtoon counterparts. This includes Nam-ra, who is set to be one of the most important characters in All of Us Are Dead season 2.

All Of Us Are Dead Changed Nam-ra’s Webtoon Ending

All Of Us Are Dead Season 2’s Story Will Justify The Show’s Biggest Nam-Ra Change

In the Now In Our School webtoon, Nam-ra gets separated from the rest of the group toward the end of the story and is only found several months later. While this also happened in All of Us Are Dead, the circumstances in which Nam-ra returned were very different. In the source material, it is revealed that Nam-ra had spent the last eight months taking care of a little girl who survived the destruction of the city. After the girl confirmed Nam-ra never tried to attack her, the military confirmed Nam-ra had “beaten” the virus and could now control her powers.

This is very different from what happened at the end of All of Us Are Dead season 1, during which Nam-ra appears to her friends but does not reveal herself to the military. While the show’s version of Nam-ra could now control her transformation like her webtoon counterpart, there is no little girl involved. Instead, Nam-ra is protecting other halfbies who were left to die following the destruction of the city. She does not go back with her friends, nor does she suggest using her abilities to create a cure.

Why Changing Nam-ra’s Story Makes Sense For All Of Us Are Dead Season 2

Now In Our School has a relatively self-contained ending, albeit not a happy one considering it sees the zombie virus about to spread in another country. Still, there aren’t any sequel hooks at the end of the webtoon, and the conclusion of the story included Nam-ra’s special abilities being used to create a vaccine. Considering All of Us Are Dead season 2 was always a possibility, it wouldn’t make sense for the show to wrap up Nam-ra’s story right away. Instead, it set up an interesting storyline for season 2 involving the halfbies.

From Cheong-san’s return to Nam-ra leading the halfbies, the biggest theories for All of Us Are Dead season 2 try to make sense of season 1’s finale.

The way Nam-ra reacted to the zombie virus makes her special, even more so now that she can control her transformation. However, her mission seems to be helping others like her rather than turning herself in to become a test subject for the government. The military in All of Us Are Dead is chasing down the remaining zombies in Hyosan, meaning neither Nam-ra nor any of her new friends are currently in safety. With just a small change to the end of the webtoon, All of Us Are Dead opened the door for an exciting second season.
