All Memory Locations In Stray

In the opening chapters of Stray, the game’s adorable feline protagonist allies itself with a little flying robot named B12, who assists them as they journey through a dangerous new world populated only by robots in order to reunite with their family. However, while playing through the game’s twelve chapters, the player will discover that B12’s lost memory can gradually be restored by finding collectible Memories scattered throughout Stray’s richly-detailed cyberpunk city.

There are a total of 27 Memories to be collected in Stray and they can be found starting in Stray’s Chapter 4: The Slums. Most of the subsequent chapters will have a few collectible memories for players to seek out, usually just off the beaten path. Rather handily for players who don’t like to spend lots of time searching every nook and cranny of the game world for collectibles, all Memories are surrounded by green pixels that make them hard to miss. However, getting them can be tricky especially given that there’s no shortage of hazards and dangers in Stray.

Stray is garnering a lot of positive buzz at the moment thanks to its richly detailed world, melancholic tone, and a story that is by all accounts rather lovely and meaningful. With B12 accompanying the game’s intrepid feline for most of the game, players should actively seek out the Memory collectibles in every chapter so B12 can offer some further context about the history of Stray’s world.

Stray offers a couple of useful tools to help the player keep track of their collectibles. Memories can be tracked under the Memories tab in B12’s menu in-game and if the player chooses Chapter Select from the main menu, they can also see if they’ve missed any memories in each chapter. However, most aren’t hard to find:

All Memory Locations In Stray Chapter Four

Stray’s fourth chapter takes place after the player has helped B12 for the first time and put on Stray’s special cat harness, which can actually be found as part of Stray’s new official merch line. Chapter Four has 7 Memories:

  • After meeting the Guardian, turn around and head to the bar with the red neon sign. Climb up to the lower roof, head left and cross over to find a memory by the body of a robot. Make sure to head back to the lower roof and follow the pipe to your left, climbing up to the roof and walking past the sleeping robot, heading down to find a Vending Machine with an Energy Drink.
  • Head back down inside the bar and up the stairs to find a memory by the table in front of you.
  • Head out of the bar and go back to where the chapter began, then turn around. Walk back and take the first set of stairs on your left to find graffiti that reads RIP Humans with a memory attached. Much of Stray’s excellent world design stems from the developers’ fascination with the former Walled City of Kowloon, so the player can often find collectibles in secluded back alleys and hidden nooks. Make sure to grab the Energy Drink from the Vending Machine
  • Head back to the Guardian and turn left, using the Vending Machine on the right to get an Energy Drink. Turn around and climb the dumpster in the alley directly opposite the vending machine. Climb up to find a small mural of a smiling robot to find a memory.
  • Head past the bar from earlier, turning left. Immediately to the right is Elliot Programming. Scratch the door to get in and head upstairs. The plants to the left of the stairs have a memory.
  • Head to the right of the Guardian to find the merchant in the marketplace. Exchange the three Energy Drinks for another memory. The real-life cats that inspired Stray’s protagonist can’t do this, but it’s necessary to get this memory.
  • Follow your objective to Momo’s place. Before interacting with him, head into his bedroom behind him and interact with the artwork on the wall.

Stray Chapter 5 Memory

Chapter Five has 3 Memories to collect:

  • The first appears once the player has evaded the first two groups of hostile Zurks. Following the path leads the player up a pipe where a memory will appear on a flickering sign directly ahead.
  • Once the player has reached the second floor of the abandoned skyscraper, they should head to the back of the second floor to find a Neco Corporation sign with a memory attached.
  • The final memory in Chapter Five is automatically found at the end of the chapter.

Chapter Six has no Memory collectibles.

All Memory Locations In Stray Chapter Seven

Stray Chapter 7 Memory

Stray’s unfortunately delayed release seems to have allowed its developers to polish the game’s indirect combat, which comes into play in Chapter Seven. Chapter Seven has 3 Memories to collect:

  • At the start of the chapter, the player will find themselves at a T-junction. Turn left to find a memory on a metal door in a dead end.
  • After completing the first chase sequence, the player should head up the pipes and go straight instead of left, going through a fence to find a small area with a memory on a robot body to the right.
  • After meeting Doc, a memory can be found on the mannequin to his right.

All Memory Locations In Stray Chapter Eight

Stray Chapter 8 Entrance

Chapter Eight has 2 Memories to collect. At this point, players should try to be much more careful as Chapter Eight is likely the toughest part of the game and features an area not seen in any of Stray’s pre-release trailer coverage.

  • After opening the first gate and entering the massive room, the player will encounter a second gate. Go through it into the tunnel and head up onto the walkway. Follow the path along until you reach a crossroads where one path is filled with Zurk eggs. Kill the Zurks and enter the pipe to the left, climbing up to a spot with a good view of the room below. A memory is located here.
  • After the chase sequence with the freaky eyes, turn around and jump on the pipe hugging the left wall, cross over to the wall on the other side and walk through the pipe. A small room with a memory can be found here.

All Memory Locations In Stray Chapter Nine

Stray Chapter 9 Memory

Stray slows down a lot in Chapter Nine and much like other cozy indie games, it allows the player to take a bit of a breather here. Chapter Nine has 2 Memories to collect:

  • One memory will be found automatically at the start of the chapter.
  • The second memory can only be found after the player encounters Zbaltazar. Instead of proceeding onwards, they should head back down the tower where a robot can be found sleeping on a sofa. On the wall right next to them, a memory will appear.

All Memory Locations In Stray Chapter Ten

Stray Chapter 10 Entrance

In Chapter Ten, Stray opens up into a semi open-world section with a lot to do and see. Unlike many other semi-open world games which feature empty and bland environments, Stray’s Chapter Ten is dense and extraordinarily colorful. Of course, that makes finding the 7 Memories here more challenging:

  • One is automatically found at the start of the chapter.
  • After heading up the subway stairs, the player should turn right to find a robot sitting near a bookshelf with a memory attached to it.
  • Heading into Midtown, the player should keep an eye out for an alley to the right. This leads into another dingy back alley with a blue neon sign and a robot sweeping the floor. The player can climb up to reach the awning beneath the sign, turning around to climb up the fan units. At the top is a nook containing a memory.
  • Near the giant hologram, the player can find a small restaurant with a yellow sign. They can go inside, hop up onto the counter and jump through the gap in the ceiling above to find a memory.
  • A memory can also be found in the security station nearby, but this is only accessible once the player has completed one of the main objectives and enjoyed some Metal Gear Solid-inspired stealth.
  • Also in Midtown’s main square is a cowboy robot taking a nap on a sofa. Directly opposite him is a barbershop with an open window that the player can jump through. They should climb the sofa, before jumping onto the shelf above the glowing sign. This leads to a crawlspace where a memory can be found.
  • Similarly, once the player gains access to the nightclub, they should go behind the bar and stand on the dumbwaiter. This will take them down into a room on the lower level with a memory.

All Memory Locations In Stray Chapter Eleven

Stray Chapter 11 Memory

Chapter Eleven only has 1 Memory and stands out as Stray’s bleakest level, although there are plenty of adventure games with drastic tone shifts.

  • During the jailbreak after the player has entered a small courtyard and lured and trapped the first drone in a cell, they should head through the next gate and turn right. A memory can be found on a body here.

All Memory Locations In Stray Chapter Twelve

Chapter Twelve also has only 1 Memory, which is automatically given to the player after a cutscene.

After finding this last memory, the player should receive the I Remember! Achievement or trophy, which is currently one of the rarest in the game. While Memories are perhaps the most common collectible in this game, there are also a few other odd collectibles and trophies, including finding Stray’s increasingly notorious paper bag, that players can collect for bragging rights.

Stray is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
