All 8 Upcoming MCU Movies & Shows Scarlet Witch Could Return In

Scarlet Witch appears to be dead in the current MCU timeline, but Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff will likely make her return in one of the MCU’s upcoming movies or TV shows. After first appearing as a secondary antagonist in the opening acts of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Scarlet Witch became a valued and powerful member of the acclaimed superhero team. However, a series of traumatic losses as documented in WandaVision and the dark corruption of the Darkhold led Scarlet Witch to make a villainous heel-turn and ultimately die in the collapsing Mount Wudagore in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Despite Scarlet Witch’s apparent death, it seems likely Wanda return in one of the many upcoming MCU movies and shows in development. However, how and where it happens remains to be seen. With no Scarlet Witch solo movie announced to undercut the drama of her death, as happened with many heroes who Thanos snapped away in Infinity War, her return has been left up to speculation. Whether it occurs in a Disney+ series or a large ensemble team-up, Scarlet Witch’s return is sure to be a defining moment in the Multiverse Saga that could turn the tides in favor of or against the Avengers and other heroes.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos

Given Agatha’s antagonistic role in WandaVision, it seems appropriate for Scarlet Witch to make an appearance among other Marvel witches in Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Wanda’s return may seem like too big of a moment to put into a streaming series, but it could work for a few reasons. Not much is currently known about the plot, but Agatha will undoubtedly want some form of vengeance for her mental imprisonment in Westview at Wanda’s hand.

Furthermore, giving the Disney+ series more moments that affect the wider MCU could work to make them essential viewing content instead of optional side-projects. With a focus on witchcraft and magic, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the witches either resurrect Wanda or use their magic to discover that she didn’t actually die in the first place.

Armor Wars

A film presumably set to address Infinity Saga holdovers like Stark’s legacy and leftover suit tech following Tony Stark’s death, Armor Wars may seem like a strange place to see the return of the Scarlet Witch. However, one other rumored character inclusion makes the possibility fairly realistic. White Vision hasn’t been seen since the WandaVision finale, and given the original version’s connection to Stark, he could finally show up again here.

If White Vision does return, he may also seek out Wanda as he attempts to find his place and purpose in the world. Armor Wars‘ switch from a series to a feature film may make side-plots like this a bit harder to handle. So, it may not have time to provide an explanation for Wanda’s survival.

Blade

Not much is known about the upcoming MCU project Blade, but the character’s history and regular enemies mean that a chaos witch like Wanda would likely fit right in. Blade is known for operating in the dark, supernatural corners of the Marvel Universe, and if he finds himself in over his head with a powerful vampire or other monsters, finding a way to locate or revive Scarlet Witch could prove necessary.

Even if Wanda is dead, Blade has enough connections to powerful magicians (and demons) that performing some kind of resurrection ritual or making a deal with a devil (like Mephisto) for her return isn’t outside the realm of possibility. Including an established Marvel character like Scarlet Witch could also work well to help tie Blade into the larger MCU.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Or Secret Wars

While it could make sense for Scarlet Witch to appear in streaming series or solo films, her return will likely prove significantly terrifying or inspiring enough to serve as a major plot point. This could plausibly come in either of the next two Avengers movies, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.

With the former presumably dealing with time travel and the latter’s comic book inspiration centering on multiverse incursions, both provide a unique narrative set-up and could be the perfect movie for Scarlet Witch’s MCU return. While the mainline Scarlet Witch may come back, it’s also possible that she’s replaced by a Wanda displaced in time (like Gamora) or a multiverse variant, though it’s yet to be seen if that’s possible with her status as a Nexus Being.

Unannounced Doctor Strange Sequel

Given that Scarlet Witch met her apparent demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it would be fitting for her to return in another Doctor Strange sequel. Strange and Clea appear set to travel to the Dark Dimension to deal with multiverse incursions, and they may need help from another powerful magic user like Wanda.

However, a potential Doctor Strange 3 is currently one of a few predicted MCU movies missing a release date, so it’s hitherto unknown if the one-time Sorcerer Supreme will get another solo movie or if his adventures will be folded into future ensemble projects. Either way, with Wanda’s body never being shown after her death, it’s quite possible that she’ll be back to either combat or make amends with Strange.

Unannounced MCU X-Men Film

After several projects with X-Men references and Easter eggs in MCU, viewers have finally been introduced to full-on mutants in Namor, Kamala Khan, and (alternate universe) Charles Xavier. However, there’s still uncertainty surrounding how X-Men and Brotherhood characters will be introduced to the franchise. If the MCU gets Magneto (and others) from another reality, as some fan theories suggest, he may come with his children, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. This alternate origin could differentiate a new Wanda from the ones fans have already seen, or it could even lead to two versions of the character coming face to face.

Unannounced Scarlet Witch Solo Project

WandaVision kicked off Phase 4, and given how well audiences received the Disney+ series, a Scarlet With solo movie should happen. While there is currently no such title among the announced Phase 5 and 6 MCU projects, there are still a few dates without specific films attached. Scarlet Witch could be one of them, or a solo movie could come in the so-far-unannounced Phase 7.

After the X-Men and their associated characters are properly introduced to the MCU, Wanda’s story will have reinvigorated narrative potential. A solo project may see her resurrected through magic and forced to deal with the fallout of her multiversal killing spree, or a variant from a mutant-populated timeline may struggle to fit in and separate herself from the reputation of universe 616/199999 Scarlet Witch‘s villainous turn.
