All 5 Sabretooth Variants in Marvel’s Gory New ‘Sabretooth War’ Explained

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Wolverine #41-#44! Marvel Comics is smack-dab in the middle of one of its bloodiest conflicts to date: the Sabretooth War, with the titular Sabretooth wreaking havoc across X-Men continuity. The Sabretooth War event is a direct follow-up to the five-issue miniseries Sabretooth and the Exiles, in which Victor Creed gathered a small army of his own multiversal variants (some of them mindless cyborgs) to quite literally wage war on the X-Men – including and especially Wolverine.

The entire Sabretooth War event will be chronicled in Wolverine #41-Wolverine #50, and in just the few issues of the Sabretooth War that have been released thus far (#41-#44), Victor Creed and his variant army have already done some major damage. Every bit of carnage they’ve wrought has been on full display throughout this ultra-violent storyline, which only makes each of them all the more intriguing. Here is every Victor Creed variant from Marvel Comics’ gory Sabretooth War, explained!

10 Most Brutal Wolverine Vs. Sabretooth Battles in Marvel History

The rivalry between Wolverine & Sabretooth is arguably the most iconic, and easily the most brutal in comics history. Here’s 10 fights that prove it!

Sabretooth’s Cyborg Soldiers Make Up the Majority of His Army

First appearance: Sabretooth and the Exiles #5 by Victor LaValle and Leonard Kirk

The Sabretooth War unofficially began in Sabretooth and the Exiles, where Sabretooth was working with the rogue mutant group to take down Orchis facilities that were secretly operated by Graydon Creed, Victor Creed’s son. Graydon was using Orchis resources to travel the multiverse and kill every version of his father in all conceivable realities. After killing them, Graydon would mount their heads like trophies on his wall – and that’s nothing compared to what he did with their bodies.

Using Orchis tech, Graydon turns the headless corpses of every Sabretooth he killed into his own personal army of deadly Sabretooth cyborgs. Once Graydon was defeated by the end of Sabretooth and the Exiles, Earth-616 Sabretooth took control over his son’s cyborg army, and aimed them directly at Wolverine and the X-Men.

Sabretooth Utterly Corrupted the Good Name of Captain America

First appearance: Sabretooth and the Exiles #5 by Victor LaValle and Leonard Kirk

The Sabretooth of Earth-203 aka “Cap”, the Sentinel of Rough Justice is a variant of both Sabretooth and Captain America in a universe in which Victor Creed became the patriotic super-soldier. Unfortunately, based on everything he’s been shown doing throughout his few appearances, it seems this variant is way more akin to Sabretooth than Captain America.

Debuting in Sabretooth and the Exiles, Cap was seemingly the leader of the three-Sabretooth strike-force that traveled the multiverse hunting Graydon Creed before they, themselves, were hunted by him. After Graydon’s defeat (and a thunderdome-style election process), Cap relinquished that supposed leadership position to Earth-616’s Sabretooth, becoming a loyal soldier in his Sabretooth War. Cap was seemingly killed by Domino in Wolverine #44.

3
Sabretooth’s Only Female Variant is Also His Most Vicious

First appearance: Sabretooth and the Exiles #5 by Victor LaValle and Leonard Kirk

Savage Sabretooth is what the only female variant in the Sabretooth War is called, which is an impressive moniker to boast, especially among those as vicious as alternate versions of Sabretooth. From the moment she jumped into action, Savage Sabretooth was immediately recognized as such, and has proved exactly why she earned that title throughout the ongoing Sabretooth War.

As a soldier in Victor Creed’s Sabretooth War, Savage Sabretooth has been single-handedly responsible for some of the more gruesome scenes the event has to offer, including ripping out X-23’s tongue with a single, vicious swipe. Plus, as it currently stands, it seems like Savage Sabretooth is angling to betray Earth-616’s Victor Creed, proving she’s as cunning as she is savage.

2
Even a ‘Bad Boy Celebrity’ Sabretooth is Still Terrifyingly Deadly

First appearance: Sabretooth and the Exiles #5 by Victor LaValle and Leonard Kirk

This Sabretooth of Earth-12 is introduced as the “Baddest of the Bad Boy Celebrities” – later reintroduced as “Pretty Boy” – and he totally looks the part. Pink button down, long ponytail, red-lens sunglasses, and an unshakeable air of superiority make it clear that this Sabretooth is a world-famous celebrity, and he knows it. While it’s not made clear how or why this Sabretooth is famous (and why he’d leave that life behind to fight another Sabretooth’s war following the defeat of Graydon Creed), it is made clear that this Sabretooth is as deadly as all the rest.

Unfortunately, while he may be as deadly, ‘Bad Boy Celebrity’ Sabretooth definitely isn’t as durable as the rest of his multiversal variants, as he’s the first one of them to get killed during the Sabreteeth’s initial strike against Wolverine and the X-Men. Pretty Boy was decapitated by X-23 in Wolverine #42.

1
Sabretooth’s Shapeshifting Variant May Be His Deadliest Soldier

First appearance: Wolverine #41 by Victor LaValle, Benjamin Percy, Cory Smith, and Geoff Shaw

Introduced last among the Sabretooth variant soldiers (those with their heads and identities still intact, anyway), Sabretooth’s shapeshifting variant is called “Camo”, whose original universe is Earth-33441. Camo has the ability to shapeshift, but – as clarified by Sabretooth himself – his powers go far beyond just changing his appearance. Camo can even copy the scent of the person he’s mimicking, meaning he’d trick even the likes of Wolverine if Logan wasn’t expecting it.

Earth-616’s Victor Creed is physically stronger than Camo, and is thereby still the superior Sabretooth. However, among Creed’s soldiers – including and especially the headless cyborgs – Camo may be Sabretooth’s deadliest.

Sabretooth War has pushed the boundaries of Sabretooth’s savagery, with the introduction of interesting and deadly variants from across the multiverse only highlighting that fact. Currently, readers are only half-way through the Sabretooth War, meaning there’s still the possibility that even more Sabretooth variants could appear, and wreak havoc on the Marvel Universe just as these variants have done. But, until then, this is every Victor Creed variant from Marvel Comics’ gory Sabretooth War, explained!
