All 28 Official Images For The Acolyte, Star Wars’ Phantom Menace Prequel

Disney has released 28 images of its upcoming Phantom Menace prequel show, The Acolyte, and they offer a unique insight into the series. The Acolyte serves as a prequel to The Phantom Menace because it’s set during the High Republic era, about 100 years before the first installment in the prequel trilogy of Star Wars movies. That also means that The Acolyte will show a version of the galaxy far, far away that has never been seen in live-action before. Since it’s so foreign and new, these 28 images serve as a great introduction to the upcoming Star Wars show.

The images primarily focus on The Acolyte‘s cast and characters, and they provide a great glimpse into the show’s main figures. They even hint at possible backstories for some major characters, and they could even suggest possible plot points in The Acolyte. While there are still very few confirmed details about the show’s plot, these images do suggest it will feature a mysterious story filled with interesting characters.

Mae Approaches A Distant Village

This Shot Could Indicate How Quickly The Acolyte Will Move

Possibly Mae (Amandla Stenberg) looking at a trail leading up to a seaside village on a hill in Star Wars: The Acolyte

This picture shows Mae, a main character and potential antagonist in The Acolyte, looking out at a village on a hilltop. That village shares some visual similarities with the one Mae approached in The Acolyte‘s trailer, and the building she fought Indara in could be one of the ones shown here. The description for this image also stated that it was taken from the show’s first episode, which could indicate that Mae will encounter Indara rather quickly and set a fast pace for the series.

Mae Stands In A Doorway, Shrouded By Shadows

Mae Looks Supremely Mysterious In This Entrance

A figure, presumably Mae (Amandla Stenberg) stands in the doorway of a building in Star Wars: The Acolyte

Mae isn’t necessarily a Sith, but she certainly shares their flair for the dramatic. This shot of Mae entering a building shrouds her in darkness and makes her appear extremely mysterious. It’s not clear what building she’s entering or for what purpose, but the lighting could indicate she’s up to no good.

Mae Meets With A Mysterious Figure

This Figure Could Be A Sith Lord

Mae (Amandla Stenberg) is seen from the rear looking at a mysterious figure standing on a rock outcrop in Star Wars: The Acolyte

One of the moments seen in The Acolyte‘s first trailer showed Mae meeting with an even more mysterious figure on a foreign planet. This figure is unidentifiable and completely shrouded in darkness. However, given Mae’s potential role as a Sith acolyte, this figure could be the Sith Lord who was active during the High Republic era, or their apprentice.

25

Mae Runs Through A Burning Forest

It’s Unclear Why She’s Running, & Why The Forest Is Burning

Someone, possibly Mae, runs parallel to a fire that is burning in a forest in Star Wars: The Acolyte

One of The Acolyte‘s dramatic stills shows Mae running as the forest behind her is engulfed in flames. There’s currently no indication of why Mae is running, whether she’s running towards or from something, or why the forest is on fire. This scene could be taken in multiple different directions, from establishing a tragic backstory for Mae to simply being part of a larger chase scene.

Mae Stands On A Potentially Familiar Planet

The Planet Mae Is On Could Be Ahch-To From The Sequel Trilogy

Mae (Amandla Stenberg) stands in front of a body of water as seen in the trailer for Star Wars: The Acolyte

Another shot from The Acolyte‘s trailer shows Mae standing on a planet that has large rock formations near a large body of water. While there’s currently no confirmation of what planet this is, there have been hints that it’s been seen before. This planet could be Ahch-To, the homeworld of the first Jedi, as seen in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, which would help explain how the galaxy had forgotten its location.

23

Mae Enters An Unknown Building

Mae Stands As An Intimidating Figure

Mae (Amandla Stenberg) stands with her hood pulled over her head in front of a doorway in Star Wars: The Acolyte

In contrast with the earlier image of Mae entering a building, this shot is not nearly as mysterious. Instead, Mae looks downright imposing here, and she seems to be a powerful force to be reckoned with. This picture indicates that Mae is a talented fighter, and helps explain how she held her own against a Jedi Master like Indara.

22

Jedi Master Indara Keeps A Low Profile

Indara Might Be Trying To Avoid Attention

Jedi Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) sits in a corner with her hood pulled over her head in Star Wars: The Acolyte

Another image from The Acolyte‘s trailer showed Master Indara sitting in the corner of a building. As the picture shows, Indara is wearing her hood up, which could be a sign that she is trying to remain unnoticed in this scene. It’s as yet unclear why she would want to remain anonymous and hide the fact that she is a Jedi, but it could connect to the larger mystery at the heart of The Acolyte.

Mae Fights With A Dagger Instead Of A Lightsaber

Mae’s Choice Of Weaponry Hints At Her Role In The Acolyte

Mae (Amandla Stenberg) brandishes a knife and hides her face behind a mask indoors in Star Wars: The Acolyte

As The Acolyte‘s trailer proved, Mae and Indara eventually come to blows. Throughout their fight, though, Mae was only ever seen using a dagger, and not the red lightsaber the Sith typically use. That detail actually provides insight into her character, and it could be an indication that Mae isn’t a true Sith, but merely an aspiring member.

Indara Uses The Force To Stop Mae’s Blade

As A Jedi Master, Indara Has A Strong Connection To The Force

Jedi Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) stops Mae's (Amandla Stenberg) blade with the Force in Star Wars: The Acolyte

Like Mae, Indara also doesn’t use her iconic weapon at the start of their fight. Instead, she chooses to rely on her power with the Force to stop Mae’s attacks. This shot is a testament to both Indara’s personal connection to the Force, and the strength of all Jedi masters in using it.

Indara Effortlessly Grabs Mae’s Wrist During Their Fight

Indara Displays A Jedi Master’s True Skill In Battle

Jedi Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) holds Mae's (Amandla Stenberg) wrist during their fight indoors in Star Wars: The Acolyte

Indara, it seems, isn’t only skilled with the Force, as this image shows she was able to easily physically overpower Mae at some point during their fight. Mae seems to be moving quite quickly, yet Indara doesn’t show any signs of exertion as she grabs her wrist. Another interesting detail is that two people can be seen watching the fight from the rafters of the building in the background.

Indara Draws Her Lightsaber During A Fight With Mae

Their Fight Clearly Gets Too Intense For Indara’s Force Abilities To Handle Alone

Mae (Amandla Stenberg) holds out her arm while fighting Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) who is wielding a green lightsaber in Star Wars: The Acolyte

Despite Indara’s strength with the Force, this shot proves that she was forced to draw her lightsaber during her altercation with Mae. That could be because Indara underestimated Mae, and she proved to be a much bigger threat than she originally thought. In any case, it is proof of Mae’s combat abilities, as she managed to be a big enough challenge that Indara thought it necessary to use her lightsaber.

A Closeup Of Indara Gives More Details About Her Appearance & Lightsaber

Indara’s Appearance Presents Two Unique Mysteries

Closeup of Carrie-Anne Moss as Jedi Master Indara wielding a green lightsaber in Star Wars: The Acolyte

This picture offers a closer look at the details of Indara’s appearance than ever seen before. Some major takeaways are the tatoos next to Indara’s eyes, the meaning of which are currently unknown, and the markings on her hands. Those markings could be scars, which would be a sign of Indara having an interesting and potentially tragic backstory, but they will likely remain a mystery until The Acolyte‘s release.

16

Indara, Sol, & Kelnacca Stand Together In A Potential Flashback

Indara & Sol Have Shorter Hair, Which Could Indicate This Scene Takes Place Earlier

Jedi Kelnacca, Sol, and Indara stand together and look younger with different haircuts in Star Wars: The Acolyte

In all the images of The Acolyte‘s main Jedi Masters, Indara and Sol have both had long hair. This shot, however, shows them both sporting shorter haircuts, which are more similar to the length of most Padawans’ hair. That could be a hint that the scene this shot is taken from is part of a flashback to a time before the main events of The Acolyte.

The First Live-Action Wookiee Jedi, Kelnacca, Gets a Closeup

Kelnacca Is Visually Distinct From Other Wookiees

Jedi Master Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo) looks towards the ground in a forest in Star Wars: The Acolyte

Jedi Master Kelnacca is the first Wookiee Jedi ever to appear in live-action, and this picture of him shows some great details. Unlike Wookiees like Chewbacca, Kelnacca appears to tie up the hair on top of his head, which is similar to other Jedi with long hair and sets him apart from other members of his species. This scene also shows Kelnacca looking towards the ground in front of a forest, though it’s not clear exactly what he’s up to.

Kelnacca Sits In Front Of A Jedi Speeder Bike

Kelnacca Seems To Be Engaged in Some Kind Of Field Work, Possibly At An Outpost

Wookiee Jedi Master Kelnacca sits on a crate in front of a land speeder in Star Wars: The Acolyte

Another shot of Master Kelnacca shows him sitting on a crate in front of a Jedi speeder bike. He seems to be on a rather rural planet, given the lack of buildings beyond the one the picture was taken from, which has some interesting implications. That could mean that Kelnacca is at a Jedi outpost, bases that were common during the High Republic era but have never been seen in live-action yet. At the very least, it shows that Kelnacca was engaged in some kind of field work.

Jedi Master Sol Teaches Younglings On Coruscant

The Scene Shows The Long Tradition Of Training Younglings There

Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) walks among a group of sitting Jedi Padawans in the Temple on Coruscant in Star Wars: The Acolyte

Another image seen in The Acolyte‘s trailer shows Jedi Master Sol walking around a room of younglings and delivering a lesson to them. One of the most interesting parts of this image is its background, which shows Sol was training younglings at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Jedi have been trained there for milennia, so Sol seems to be continuing one of the Order’s oldest traditions.

Jedi Masters Vernestra Rwoh & Sol Stand Together

Vernestra Rwoh Makes Her Live-Action Debut From The High Republic Novels

Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) and Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) stand next to each other in their Jedi robes in Star Wars: The Acolyte

Of all the confirmed characters in The Acolyte, only one had previously appeared in any Star Wars stories: Vernestra Rwoh. Vernestra was a main character in several High Republic novels, and this image shows her first live-action appearance. Since she appeared in the High Republic novels, which takes place 100 years before The Acolyte, Vernestra is a seasoned and wise Jedi Master, and it could be the case that Sol is seeking her advice in this scene.

Jedi Master Sol Engages In A Field Mission

Sol’s Mission Gets Him Into A Fight With Mae

Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) stands in his robes in a dark alley in Star Wars: The Acolyte

While Sol was known for his ability to train younglings, it seems he also engaged in field missions from time to time. As the trailer for The Acolyte showed, this particular mission would lead to a fight with Mae. Additionally, an interesting detail in this image is that Sol had different robes for different purposes, as he’s traded in his white robe for a more modest brown.

Jedi Padawan Jecki Lon Trains Under An Unknown Master

Jecki Lon Was Master Sol’s Padawan, Yet This Shot Shows Her Training With Someone Else

Jecki Lon was Master Sol’s Padawan, and she had a close, respectful relationship with her teacher. Despite how close the two were, though, Jecki also learned under other Jedi Masters. This image shows an unidentified Jedi trained her and other Padawans in lightsaber combat, and they used wooden lightsabers similar to the ones seen in Ahsoka when Sabine was practicing with Huyang and Ahsoka.

Jecki Lon is a Theelin-human hybrid, and this image shows off the effects of her ancestry. Because of her connection to the Theelin race, Jecki has colorful markings on her face, pale skin, and horns coming out of her head. It makes her a visually distinct character in The Acolyte, and also serves as a neat bit of Star Wars lore, given the Theelins’ connection to Legends.
