All 19 DC Movies Releasing After The Batman

All 19 DC Movies Releasing After The Batman

The Batman is the latest movie from the DC movie universe but definitely not the last, as Warner Bros. has many more movies coming in the near future and in development – and here’s every one of them. The DC Extended Universe has gone through many changes following the underperformance of some of its biggest movies, which prompted the studio to make some changes to its future projects, giving some characters their own movies, continuing the stories of previously established heroes, and separating others from the DCEU, as happened with Batman.

While Michael Keaton’s Batman and Ben Affleck’s version will return in The Flash, viewers will meet another Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Now with Robert Pattinson as the title character, The Batman follows a younger Bruce Wayne on his second year of crime-fighting in Gotham and explores his detective side, which is often forgotten in Batman movies. Batman will come face to face with the Riddler (Paul Dano), a serial killer targeting elite Gotham citizens, but during his investigation, he will uncover corruption that links to his own family. Batman will also come across other notable villains from the comics, such as Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin (Colin Farrell).

The Batman is one of the most anticipated movies of 2022 but not the only one from DC and Warner coming this year, and there are also many other projects – both part of the DCEU and separate from it – coming in the near future or currently in development, further expanding this now extensive universe of superheroes. Here are all 19 DC movies coming after The Batman.

DC League Of Super-Pets – May 20, 2022

All 19 DC Movies Releasing After The Batman

After the darkness and action of The Batman, DC is taking a break with a computer-animated superhero movie in DC League of Super-Pets. Based on the superhero team Legion of Super-Pets, the movie sees Superman’s dog, Krypto (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), forming a team of shelter-pets with superpowers after the Justice League is captured by Lex Luthor. The team is formed by Ace the Bat-Hound (Kevin Hart), a potbellied pig named PB (Vanessa Bayer) who becomes Wonder Woman’s pet, a super-fast turtle named Merton (Natasha Lyonne), and a squirrel named Ch’p (Diego Luna), who becomes Green Lantern’s pet. DC League of Super-Pets will stream on HBO Max 45 days after its theatrical release.

Black Adam – July 29, 2022

Dwayne The Rock Johnson as Black Adam

The next live-action movie from DC is Black Adam, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Dwayne Johnson. Black Adam had been in development since the early 2000s, and in 2014, Johnson was attached to play the character as the villain in Shazam!, but those plans kept changing and he was eventually given his own movie. Production of Black Adam had to be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and after being pushed back a couple of times, it’s finally set to be released in July – and just like DC League of Super Pets, it will stream on HBO Max 45 days later. Black Adam will also introduce a bunch of new characters from DC Comics, such as Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan).

The Flash – November 4, 2022

The Flash movie trailer

One of the most anticipated movies from the DCEU is The Flash, directed by Andy Muschietti and with Ezra Miller reprising his role as Barry Allen. Influenced by fan-favorite comic book storyline Flashpoint, The Flash will see Barry Allen traveling back in time to prevent his mother’s death, but time traveling can bring major consequences to his original timeline. In the process, he will come across alternate versions of himself as well as Ben Affleck’s Batman (with whom he has already worked before) and he will meet Michael Keaton’s Batman as well. The Flash will also introduce Sasha Calle as Supergirl and will see the return of Michael Shannon’s General Zod, who was killed in Man of Steel. The Flash will be available to stream on HBO Max 45 days later.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom – December 16, 2022

Aquaman 2 Costume

Next in line, and most likely closing DC’s 2022 movies, is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, directed by James Wan. Plot details on Aquaman’s second solo adventure are still kept under wraps, but it will see the return of Mera (Amber Heard), Orm Marius (Patrick Wilson), Nuidis Vulko (Willem Dafoe), Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), Thomas Curry (Temuera Morrison), King Nereus (Dolph Lundgren), and Atlanna (Nicole Kidman). Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will also be available to stream on HBO Max 45 days later.

Batgirl – 2022

Leslie Grace as Batgirl

Batgirl is getting her own movie with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah as directors and Leslie Grace as the title character. A Batgirl movie has been in development since 2017, and after a couple of changes in its production crew, it finally moved forward in 2018. Plot details about Batgirl are unknown, but it will bring back J.K. Simmons as James Gordon and Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne/Batman, and Grace’s Barbara Gordon will be joined by her best friend Alysia Yeoh (played by Ivory Aquino) and sociopathic pyromaniac Firefly (Brendan Fraser). Batgirl is expected to be released on HBO Max sometime in 2022.

Shazam! Fury Of The Gods – June 2, 2023

Shazam flexes his muscles in Shazam!

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will kick off 2023 for DC and Warner. Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will bring back Zachary Levi as Shazam and Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman and Adam Brody as his adult superhero form, and Djimon Hounsou as the wizard Shazam. The second Shazam movie will also count on the talents of Helen Mirren as Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso, the daughters of Atlas, as well as Rachel Zegler in a still undisclosed role.

Blue Beetle – August 18, 2023

Blue Beetle is the second confirmed DC movie to arrive in 2023, even if details about it are still scarce. Blue Beetle has been in development since 2018, and in 2021, Angel Manuel Soto was brought in as director, with Xolo Maridueña (Miguel Diaz in Cobra Kai) cast as Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle. Although it was initially planned to be an HBO Max exclusive movie, it was later changed to a theatrical release and given an August 2023 release date.

Supergirl – 2022/2023

Sasha Calle’s Supergirl will debut in The Flash and will return in her own movie sometime in 2022 or 2023. Unfortunately, there are no details about Supergirl beyond Calle’s casting, only that Warner Bros. is reportedly looking for a female director. Given how little information there is and that the project is still waiting for a director, it’s more likely that Supergirl will see the light in 2023.

Green Lantern Corps – 2022/2023

Green Lantern Corps was announced to be in development in 2014, and since then, it has encountered a number of obstacles. In late 2019, Geoff Johns delivered his script for a Green Lantern Corps movie, but there have been no news on the project since then, except that Green Lantern John Stewart was removed from Zack Snyder’s Justice League as the studio has other plans for him. Green Lantern Corps is scheduled for a 2022-2023 release.

Zatanna – 2022/2023

The DCEU will introduce magician Zatanna sometime in 2022-2023. In 2018, Warner Bros. was reportedly considering bringing Zatanna to the big screen, and in 2021, an AT&T investor presentation revealed that a Zatanna movie was in development. Zatanna will be produced by J. J. Abrams and written by Emerald Fennell, and that’s all that is known about the project.

Static Shock – 2022/2023

Also part of Warner’s 2022-2023 plans is Static Shock. The project was announced to be in development at the 2020 DC FanDome event, and some time later, Michael B. Jordan joined the production team. In 2021, Randy McKinnon was brought in as screenwriter, and while it’s believed it could be an HBO Max exclusive movie, details about Static Shock are unknown.

Wonder Woman 3

A third Wonder Woman movie was officially greenlit in December 2020 and will have Gal Gadot back as the title character and Patty Jenkins as director one more time. Plot details are currently unknown, but Jenkins has previously said that she has the plot already written and that the plan is for this third movie to be (finally) set in the present. Filming of Wonder Woman 3 is expected to begin in mid-2023, so a projected release date hasn’t been given.

Wonder Twins

Zan and Jayna, best known as the Wonder Twins, will get their own movie. It was revealed in February 2022 that a Wonder Twins movie is currently in development with Adam Sztykiel serving as screenwriter and making his directorial debut. Wonder Twins is planned to be an HBO Max exclusive movie, but there’s no projected release date yet.

The Amazons

Not only is Wonder Woman getting a third movie but her success has made way for a spinoff titled The Amazons. As the name suggests, the movie will focus on the Amazon race of Themyscira, and the story is reportedly set between the Wonder Woman movies. Patty Jenkins is attached as executive producer, but she won’t direct the project.

Black Canary

Following her debut on Birds of Prey and the success of this movie, Dinah Lance a.k.a. Black Canary is getting her own movie. Little is known about the project, except that Jurnee Smollett will reprise her role as the title character and that the script will be written by Misha Green. Black Canary is being developed as an HBO Max exclusive film but has no release date yet.

Blackhawks

Blackhawk - DC Comics

Blackhawks has been in development since 2018, with Steven Spielberg on board to produce and direct, and production was expected to begin once he was finished West Side Story. Writer David Koepp has shared that Blackhawks will be set during World War II, and in late 2020, he confirmed that Spielberg is still involved in the project, but there haven’t been more updates.

Hourman

Hourman is getting his own movie, though it’s unknown which version of the character will be. In March 2021, Hourman was confirmed to be in development with Gavin James and Neil Widener as writers and Chernin Entertainment producing, but that’s all that’s known about the project.

Joker 2

Joker Joaquin Phoenix

Perhaps one of the most mysterious and at the same time anticipated projects from DC and Warner is a potential sequel to Todd Phillips’ Joker. Rumors about Joker 2 being in development have been floating around since 2019, and in 2021, Phillips reportedly signed on to write the script. However, Warner hasn’t made an official announcement regarding Joker 2, but the possibility is still there.
