Many iconic Star Wars locations will always be associated with the original trilogy, but several planets, moons, and space stations have returned in other movies and TV shows. The Star Wars original trilogy features the most memorable worlds in science fiction, with each planet feeling unique despite being defined by a single environment. The same can be said for the incredible ship designs, which often serve as the central location for factions that must stay on the move in war.
The subsequent Star Wars movies and TV shows have added breathtaking locations that feature entirely new designs or pay homage to classic planets from the original trilogy. However, many Star Wars projects have returned to original trilogy locations to expand the stories of different characters and events that shaped the saga. 15 Star Wars original trilogy locations have returned on screen, cementing their place in the larger franchise.

Tatooine
Luke Skywalker’s home planet
As the first planet to appear in Star Wars, Tatooine has become one of the franchise’s most revisited locations across the movies and TV shows. It was Luke and Anakin Skywalker’s home in George Lucas’ movies, where Rey proclaimed herself a Skywalker at the end of the sequel trilogy, and it even appeared in the animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Tatooine’s importance to the Star Wars universe means it has appeared at least once in most TV shows and will likely continue to appear in future projects.

The Tantive IV
Princess Leia’s ship
While Tatooine was the first Star Wars planet, the first location the characters appeared in was Princess Leia’s ship, the Tantive IV. Many viewers assumed the similar ship in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith was the Tantive IV, but due to differences in their designs, it was changed to the Tantive III. Leia’s vessel made a few minor appearances in the animated TV shows, continuing Alderaan’s humanitarian efforts. The Tantive IV also returned in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, where it was destroyed at the Battle of Exegol.

Death Star I
The planet killer
Despite how prominent superweapons have become in Star Wars, the first Death Star has only made a handful of appearances since the original trilogy. The first copy of the plans made by the Geonosians appeared in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, and the station’s construction was underway at the end of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The Death Star’s most notable appearance was in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which revealed how the Rebels stole the plans, and the Andor season 1 finale featured a post-credit scene that teased its completion.

The Millennium Falcon
The fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy
Rather than having a planet as the central location like in the prequels, the Millennium Falcon was the heroes’ unofficial home throughout the Star Wars original trilogy. It has appeared in every Skywalker Saga film except Episodes I and II, even making a surprise background cameo in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Solo: A Star Wars Story showed a much more polished Millennium Falcon and revealed how Han Solo acquired the ship from Lando Calrissian.

Alderaan
The first planet destroyed by the Empire
Alderaan became the first planet destroyed by the Death Star, but it was never shown in detail. Its brief appearance at the end of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and in one episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars were all most viewers had to build a connection to Alderaan. Its most prominent appearance was in Obi-Wan Kenobi, showing Leia and her parents going about their lives in Aldera, the planet’s capital city.

Yavin 4
Headquarters of the Rebel Alliance
The Rebel Alliance established their secret base on the fourth moon of the gas giant Yavin, using the ancient Massassi Temples for their headquarters. Yavin 4’s first appearance after the original trilogy was in the now non-canon Star Wars: Clone Wars 2D micro-series, with Anakin Skywalker tracking Asajj Ventress and dueling her in the Massassi ruins. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story returned to Yavin 4 to show the events leading directly to A New Hope, while Star Wars Rebels showed the Ghost crew joining the rest of the Rebellion after losing their own base.

Hoth
The new Rebel base
Because Hoth was a secret Rebel base in a harsh environment, it understandably has not appeared much since The Empire Strikes Back. Hoth has been limited to animated Star Wars shorts and has not made another appearance in live-action. A particularly memorable Star Wars: Forces of Destiny episode sees Leia and Chewbacca attacked by a Wampa. Despite its few appearances in the movies and TV shows, the Battle of Hoth is a fan-favorite setting in numerous Star Wars video games.

The Executor
Darth Vader’s flagship
However, the least recurring location from the original trilogy is the Executor, Darth Vader’s flagship. The Executor was introduced in The Empire Strikes Back and destroyed at the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi, limiting its ability to return. It does appear in a few Star Wars Galaxy of Adventure shorts and has been prominent in Marvel’s Darth Vader comics.

Dagobah
Yoda’s place of exile
Dagobah was one of the purest, Force-rich planets in the galaxy, making it the perfect place for Yoda to hide and eventually train Luke Skywalker. Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 6 showed how Yoda was first guided to Dagobah by the spirit of Qui-Gon Jinn on his quest to learn the secret of immortality. Dagobah also appeared in a deleted scene from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, showing Yoda landing on the surface in an escape pod.

Bespin
Cloud City mining facility
Cloud City on Bespin is another location that hasn’t had many on-screen appearances since the original trilogy. Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures recreated some iconic moments on Cloud City in animation, from Luke Skywalker’s duel with Darth Vader to Han Solo freezing in carbonite. Cloud City made a brief appearance at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in a montage of uprisings all across the galaxy.

Death Star II
The Empire’s second superweapon
Because it was destroyed in Return of the Jedi, and with the First and Final Orders building their own superweapons, it seemed unlikely that the second Death Star would ever return on screen. However, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker revealed that a large section of Death Star II survived the explosion and fell into the oceans of Kef Bir, another moon in the Endor system. It was in these ruins that Rey discovered a secret room in Palpatine’s throne room, where she experienced a dark side vision that forced her to confront her fear of becoming like her grandfather.

Home One
The Rebel Alliance Headquarters Frigate
Home One became the new mobile headquarters of the Rebel Alliance after the Empire drove the Rebels from their base on Hoth. Mon Mothma and the other Rebel leaders presented their plan to destroy the second Death Star on Home One, and Admiral Ackbar took command of the vessel during the Battle of Endor. Home One continued to serve the New Republic and returned in the Ahsoka series, where General Hera Syndulla tried and failed to convince the Defense Council that Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Empire were still a threat.

Due to the Ewoks’ popularity with younger audiences, the forest moon of Endor made quite a few appearances in the years following Return of the Jedi. The Ewoks returned for two live-action, made-for-TV films and an animated series for two seasons. Endor appeared in the montage of worlds rising against the First Order at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Naboo
Home of Padmé Amidala and the Gungans
Although most viewers associate it with the prequel era, Naboo first appeared in the 1997 Special Edition release of Return of the Jedi. Naboo became a recurring location in all three prequel trilogy films and several episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, showing the development of Padmé Amidala and her relationship with Anakin Skywalker. The planet has also appeared in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi and several animated Star Wars micro-series.

Coruscant
The capital of the galaxy
Next to Tatooine, Coruscant has had the most appearances since the original trilogy. As the capital of the Galactic Republic, it was the central location of the prequel trilogy and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and with the number of episodes, it has likely appeared more than Tatooine. Coruscant continues to appear in new TV shows, both animated and live-action, continuing to serve as the capital of the Galactic Empire and the New Republic. However, the New Republic eventually moved its capital to Hosnian Prime, meaning Coruscant is not likely to appear in the Star Wars sequel trilogy era.
