All 14 Loki Costumes In The MCU, Ranked

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has sported many different outfits throughout his lengthy MCU career, though some have expressed his power much more than others. Tom Hiddleston debuted as Loki, the Asgardian God of Mischief and brother to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, in 2011’s Thor, and was initially depicted as a minor villain for Thor and the original Avengers team. Over the course of several years, Loki embarked on a redemption arc, though this concluded with his demise in Avengers: Infinity War. When Avengers: Endgame’s Time Heist allowed a variant of Loki to be freed, however, this new version also saw redemption in the MCU, as he finally realized his new glorious purpose.

Over the course of his twelve-year MCU journey, Loki has worn a wide variety of costumes, with each representing his mental state in each of his appearances. After debuting in Thor and having a starring role as the main villain of 2012’s The Avengers, Loki went on to appear in Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, and star in his own series in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. Loki season 2 came to an end on November 9, 2023, and saw Loki realize a new destiny as the protector of the MCU’s multiverse, and receive a brand-new outfit, inspired by all those that came before.

14 Loki’s Original Suit In Thor Was Basic

Thor (2011)

2011’s Thor not only introduced the titular God of Thunder to the MCU, but also debuted the realm of Asgard and its inhabitants, including the Asgardian Royal family. With Thor and Loki’s father, Odin, sitting on the throne of Asgard, the two adoptive brothers donned regal garments, too, though were evidently more understated than Odin’s outfit. Even so, the original Thor film was still testing the waters of what would be appropriate for the Asgardians’ dress in the MCU, so Loki’s initial costume was basic and simple, though began the green-and-black themes that emanated throughout his future MCU costumes.

13 Loki’s Relaxed Suit Was Dulled-Down For Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Later on in Loki’s MCU career, 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok began with him masquerading as Odin to finally get his spot on the Asgardian throne. He was soon outed following Thor’s return, however, and revealed a very simple costume. While this outfit was more dulled-down than his original costume in Thor, director Taika Waititi put huge emphasis on vibrant colors and bright tones in Ragnarok, so at least this costume gave Loki a greater burst of color and energy. This costume was soon replaced by more modernized looks for Loki’s time on Sakaar and the final battle against Cate Blanchett’s Goddess of Death, Hela.

12 Loki’s First The Avengers Suit Reflected His Time With Thanos

The Avengers (2012)

After apparently meeting his demise at the end of Thor, Loki returned in the opening moments of The Avengers, intent on wreaking havoc on Earth in an effort to take over the planet. Prior to his return, the God of Mischief had spent time with the Mad Titan Thanos, and this traumatic experience could be seen perfectly in the darker tones of his costume and his more run-down and tortured make-up. Loki had evidently been through hell, yet this costume marked the debut of his powerful scepter that contained the Mind Stone. Why Thanos gifted the scepter to Loki is another question.

Loki Season 1 (2021)

2021’s Loki season 1 introduced several different variants of Loki into the MCU, with most of them making their first appearance after Loki was pruned and sent to the Void. The debut of these variants gave Marvel Studios the opportunity to adapt several iconic Loki costumes from Marvel Comics, including the fur-lined outfit worn by DeObia Oparei’s Boastful Loki. This Loki design was popular during Marvel Comics’ 2000s stories, yet was far from the most memorable outfit for the God of Mischief. Nevertheless, Oparei certainly wore it well, despite only appearing briefly in Loki season 1.

10 Kid Loki’s Outfit Kept His Marvel Comics Logo

Loki Season 1 (2021)

Another variant of Loki introduced in Loki season 1’s Void was Jack Veal’s Kid Loki, whose costume mirrors some of Loki’s classic looks from Marvel Comics. Kid Loki’s costume was taken straight from the pages of Marvel Comics, so provided a great reference for die-hard Marvel fans. It was even fit with Kid Loki’s logo, a symbol in the shape of the horns that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki favors on his helmets. There is speculation that Kid Loki may return in the MCU’s future, potentially taking a spot among the MCU’s possible Young Avengers team that has recently been teased, so this costume could be seen again.

9 Classic Loki Received A Comic-Accurate Costume

Loki Season 1 (2021)

Similarly to Kid Loki, Richard E. Grant’s Classic Loki costume was also a fantastic reference to Marvel Comics. Where WandaVision saw Wanda Maximoff and Vision sport their goofy, comic-accurate outfits as Halloween costumes, Loki season 1 introduced Classic Loki as an older version of the God of Mischief who renounced the villainous lifestyle years ago. Fit with the bright yellow fringe and cape, skin-tight green spandex, and retro helmet with comparatively small horns, Classic Loki’s costume was a thrill to see in live-action, and a fun callback to Loki’s outfits in years gone by.

8 President Loki Put A New Spin On Loki’s Horned Costume

Loki Season 1 (2021)

Although there were several other variants of Loki depicted as survivors of the Void in Loki season 1, one that stood out from the crowd was President Loki, adapted from Marvel Comics’ four-part Vote Loki storyline in 2016. With the small horns, green waistcoat and tie, and “Vote Loki” badge, this look was almost exactly what it was in the comics, providing yet another throwback to Marvel Comics while confirming that, in some reality, Loki did in fact run for President of the United States in the MCU. It’s very unlikely audiences will see this outfit again, as it was likely only included as a fun Easter egg in the Void.

7 Loki’s Horns First Appeared On His Regal Thor Suit

Thor (2011)

Most Loki variants’ costumes include a variation of Loki’s signature horned helmets, and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki was first seen sporting this trademark accessory in 2011’s Thor. After assuming the throne of Asgard following Odin’s fall into the Odinsleep, Loki’s costume takes on a much more regal look, and when engaging in battle with Laufey and later with Thor, Loki sports his iconic helmet. This version of the helmet showed off huge horns that curled over Loki’s head, giving an ominous and intimidating impression, and Loki’s clothing assumed more gold patterns to reflect his new status as temporary King of Asgard.

6 Loki’s Scepter Completed His Horned The Avengers Suit

While Loki’s initial costume in The Avengers is dark, depressed, and reflecting his tortured mental state following his time with Thanos, his battle-ready costume takes on more of the regal themes that his Thor looks contained. This outfit came with an updated horned helmet, and more excessive gold armor, with the green of his cape and jacket becoming much brighter, too. While Loki ended up being only a minor villain for the Avengers, this outfit certainly gave him the look of an imposing threat, yet he was ultimately no match for the MCU’s original Avengers team.

5 Loki’s Variant Jacket & Tie Gave Him A More Civilian Look

Loki Season 1 (2021)

In his more recent appearances in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, Loki has foregone his green-and-black Asgardian garbs completely. After being taken captive by the Time Variance Authority following his escape with the Tesseract during the Avengers’ Time Heist in Endgame, Loki’s Asgardian clothing is stripped away, and he is instead gifted a TVA boilersuit. This costume is soon removed, too, and replaced with an average shirt and tie, though this outfit was completed by a thin jacket with the word “VARIANT” written across the back. This acted as a constant reminder than Loki was a fugitive, and not a part of the TVA, though this jacket was soon removed.

4 Loki’s Official TVA Jacket Showed His Progression In Season 2

Loki Season 2 (2023)

For 2023’s Loki season 2, Loki retained the shirt and tie of his original TVA look, but instead of donning a variant jacket, he was gifted a much thicker, official TVA jacket. This showed his character progression throughout his Disney+ series, as he was no longer seen as just a variant, but had become an official part of the TVA, fighting to protect the organization and stabilize the expanding multiverse. This costume carried a huge amount of significance, as Loki had finally been accepted into something of a family, though he would give this all up to protect his newfound friends at the end of Loki season 2.

3 Sylvie’s Costume Reflected Her Time On The Run

Loki Season 1 (2021) & Loki Season 2 (2023)

Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie was perhaps the most significant Loki variant, as it was her actions in Loki season 1’s finale that allowed subsequent multiversal adventures to unfold. Sylvie’s costume was very similar to Loki’s old costumes, keeping with the green-and-back motif, though the greens were much less vivid in Sylvie’s outfit. This reflected her time on the run from the TVA, as the organization had deemed her a variant as a child, so she spent her entire life in hiding. In Loki season 2, Sylvie retains this costume, but accessorizes with a fashionable trench coat and 1980s hair-do, connecting her to her new life on a branched timeline.

2 Loki Got A Modern Horned Look In Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok (2017) & Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

2017’s Thor: Ragnarok marked a huge turning point for Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in the MCU, as Ragnarok marked the end of his first redemption arc. While he had butted heads with Thor throughout the film, Loki joined the Revengers in the final battle against Hela, and sported a new, modernized costume for this fight. This outfit was sleeker, with blue tones instead of so much green, and provided Loki with a brand-new horned headpiece. This allowed him to retain his imposing stature from previous MCU projects, but proved that he had transformed into something of a hero over the course of the Phase 3 film.

Loki Season 2 (2023)

By far the strongest Loki costume in the MCU is his most recent outfit, seen in the final moments of Loki season 2’s finale, “Glorious Purpose.” After realizing the Temporal Loom couldn’t be adjusted to account for an infinite amount of branching timelines, Loki himself stepped up to protect the multiverse. For his new role as a literal god, Loki received a new costume, comprised of a soft fabric cape, simple shoes, and a beautiful new horned headpiece that had taken on the kintsugi style that ran through He Who Remains’ Citadel at the End of Time. This new costume is quintessential Loki, reflecting his mysticism and power perfectly.
