Aliens’ Ripley Is Decked Out With Weapons Next To Facehugger Eggs

Sigourney Weaver’s iconic hero Ellen Ripley gears up and arms herself against the terror of Xenomorph menace in Alien art. The star has portrayed the former freight craft crew member turned sole survivor and Xenomorph-killing civilian adviser to the Colonial Marines in Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror hit. Weaver portrayed the character in three following sequels, as the Xenomorph and the corporate interests that hope to claim them expand across the cosmos, bringing new, deadly alien breeds into even deadlier environments in the far future.

With Ripley remaining a cinematic icon to this day, comic book artist Travis Charest created a perfect tribute to the Alien leading character that he later shared on his personal X account (formerly Twitter). Check it out below:

Created through ink, gouache, and pencils, the sketch depicts Ripley in her outfit from Aliens, complete with a fully loaded pulse rifle and flamethrower to face down any acid-blooded attackers. However, behind Ripley lurks a pair of freshly hatched Facehugger eggs, as the sketch captures both the sinister threat of the Xenomorphs alongside their greatest enemy.

Could Ripley Return To The Alien Saga?

Alien: Romulus is a standalone entry set between Alien and Aliens.

While Ripley is a recognizable character in the Alien series, her story has seemingly ended. Although Alien 3 concluded with the original Ripley sacrificing herself to put an end to the Xenomorph horde once and for all, she would be cloned in 1997’s Alien: Resurrection. The newly created Ripley 8 survived a fourth Xenomorph incursion and was last seen aboard a ship orbiting Earth. While continuations and alternate-timeline sequels have been considered, each attempt has been abandoned.

While Scott’s two Alien prequels, Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, diverged from Ripley’s story before Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, current plans for the franchise have avoided continuing her story. Alien: Romulus is set between the events of Alien and Aliens and is believed to follow an all-new cast elsewhere in the universe. The Alien TV series is set long before the original movie. As such, it is clear that the franchise may be ready to move beyond its original survivor.

While Ripley may not play a part in future Alien stories, her place within cinema history is unshakable. A strong female horror icon who helped break down stereotypes in the genre, Ripley’s stand against the Xenomorphs has solidified her place in filmmaking, inspiring and captivating audiences today. As such, Charest’s sketch is a perfect tribute to a respected character.
