Alice In Wonderland: 5 Reasons The Animated Version Is The Best (& 5 On Why It’s Tim Burton’s)

For years now, live-action versions of Disney movies have been releasing, and fans are sometimes torn on which adaptation they like better: The cartoon movies are the originals that people grew up with, know and love, and the newer flicks, with real people in them, can allow audiences to fall in love with a tale all over again.

While no film is one hundred percent perfect and while everyone has their own opinion, this debate is going to broken down, here and now, when it comes to Alice in Wonderland; down below, there are five reasons listed for why the animated version is better and five for why it’s Tim Burton’s.

Animated: It’s A Classic

Disney first put out this story in 1951, making it a true classic. The story, the style, the setting… Everyone is familiar with this cartoon flick. It came out after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio and Cinderella and before Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty and a slew of other iconic works. These animated films and characters have been entertaining generation after generation, and there are TV shows, promotional products, and theme parks that celebrate them further.

Burton’s: It Allows People To Enjoy The Story In A Whole New Way

One of the best things about Disney remakes is that legendary stories can be told and enjoyed in a whole new way. With Tim Burton’s movie, specifically, there is still a girl named Alice going into a magical place.

But there are new adventures, some updated characters and some real people playing the parts, making it something that has never been seen before.

Animated: It Features Alice As More Of A Dreamer

In the cartoon adaptation, Alice is this young girl with a vivid imagination; she would rather be watching the clouds float by, playing with her cat, singing and daydreaming than doing school lessons or attending stuffy parties put on by her family. Fans with their heads stuck in the clouds can relate!

Burton’s: It Features Alice As More Of A Fighter

In the live-action adaptation, Alice has to come back to this land to fight off the Jabberwocky. She is older, she is put in more dangerous situations, and it is up to her to save this place and these people.

While she is still full of life and creative, the warrior side of her is put on display in a big way. Just look at her here… She’s so fierce.

Animated: It’s Full Of Kid-Friendly & Quirky Creatures

There are some parents who probably did not let their kids watch Tim Burton’s version, giving another point to the animated Alice in Wonderland. It is more family and kid-friendly, and it is full of quirky creatures; besides the talking animals and walking playing cards, there are also, for instance, Bread-and-Butterflies, Rocking-Horse-Flies, and Snap-Dragonflies!

As mentioned, though, in Tim Burton’s story, Alice’s fate is set: She must give the throne back to the White Queen, take down the Red Queen and defeat a dragon-like character, the Jabberwocky.

It is a bit different than the original story, but for some, these fantasy elements and fight scenes made it a far better tale!

Animated: There Are Cute Songs

Disney films are known for their songs, and Alice in Wonderland featured quite a few. Some of the most notable include Alice singing about being in a world of her own, the flowers singing “The Garden /All in the Golden Afternoon”, The Caterpillar reciting the vowels with smoke, “The Mad Tea Party/ The Unbirthday Song” and a tune about painting the roses red.

Burton’s: There Are Well-Known Stars

The well-known stars are another positive aspect, when it comes to the flick from 2010. Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Anne Hathaway played major characters in this, and actors such as Alan Rickman and Stephen Fry provided their voices to the story. Yes, this is definitely one of the major appeals, when it comes to all the live-action Disney movies that are being made.

Animated: It’s Simple & Playful

As a final note, Disney’s animated movies are simple and playful. Sure, they may have detailed plots, some somewhat frightening scenes, and some deep lessons in them, but they are cartoons that are made for one and all, which exist to entertain today the same as they did back in the day.

Burton’s: It’s Dark & Twisted

A final point goes to the live-action movie, due to its dark and twisted vibe. It did not have to go this way, but then Tim Burton got involved! He alone has made this a favorite amongst many fans.

And even if he had not directed it, this version of Alice in Wonderland could have still felt more dramatic, since it features real people rather than drawings of people and silly creatures.
