Alan Wake Remastered Listed For October Release on PlayStation

Alan Wake may be coming to PlayStation soon via a new remaster. Alan Wake originally released exclusively on Xbox 360 and PC in 2010 and was owned by Microsoft, despite developer Remedy not being a first-party studio. That said, outside of a digital-only spin-off, attempts at a full sequel never took off and the franchise eventually faltered. Still, Remedy has always been adamant about continuing the franchise and found ways to link its last game, Control, to Alan Wake, suggesting a sequel may be coming.

Earlier this year, it was reported that an Alan Wake sequel is in development at Remedy with funding from Epic Games. The developer has signed a deal with Epic, though details of what the two are working on together are currently unknown. As of right now, if a sequel is happening, there’s no indication of when it could release, but it seems like it’ll probably come to multiple platforms, as Remedy was able to get the rights to Alan Wake from Microsoft in 2019.

It seems Remedy may be trying to prepare audiences for this return, as Taiwanese retailer Rakuten Taiwan (via Wario64 on Twitter) leaked the existence of an Alan Wake remaster for PS4, PS5, and Xbox consoles. According to industry insider Daniel Ahmad, the remaster will be revealed next week, presumably at the September 9 PlayStation showcase. With an Alan Wake sequel reportedly on the way, a remaster is an ideal way to drum up hype. Not only has the series never appeared on PlayStation, but the first game is 11 years old now and is generally considered to be a cult classic. A remaster like this is a good way to build an audience.

The listing does appear to be legitimate, as reputable sources have verified it, and it seems like fans will get a first look soon. It also seems as if the game will release quite soon as well, given the October release date in the listing. It’s unclear how much work Remedy has done to the original game for this alleged remaster, though. It’s possible it’s just a simple port with 4k graphics, but perhaps Remedy will make changes to gameplay and add new content in to tease a sequel.

This isn’t the first time an Alan Wake remaster has leaked, so it seems like Remedy really is gearing up to bring the series back. As of right now, fans will likely have to wait until September 9 to get an idea of what the remaster will look like. Either way, Alan Wake fans can finally rejoice as the series seems to be showing signs of life once again.
