Ahsoka’s Mortis Gods Resurrects A Major The Rise Of Skywalker Theory

Ahsoka’s Mortis Gods Resurrects A Major The Rise Of Skywalker Theory

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episode 8.

Ahsoka season 1, episode 8 “The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord” brought back the Force Gods of Mortis, providing new evidence for a popular theory regarding Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Rey heard the voices of several past Jedi during her fight with Emperor Palpatine, including Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, leading viewers to believe Ahsoka had died by that point in the timeline. However, Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni will not confirm that Ahsoka is dead during the sequel trilogy, suggesting she could be alive. Star Wars fans have also speculated a third possibility, and Ahsoka‘s season finale makes this theory a more likely outcome.

The Rise of Skywalker novelization by Rae Carson expands on this idea by shedding more light on the Jedi Rey connected with. It confirms that not all the voices Rey heard came from Jedi who were dead, as some of them were “still anchored to the living in a strange way.” This strongly implies that Ahsoka could be alive, but the wording offers credibility to a more significant fate for Ahsoka. The Mortis Gods provide the perfect opportunity for this theory to come true in Ahsoka season 2, conclude Ahsoka’s story throughout the Star Wars TV shows, and set up her role in The Rise of Skywalker.

Star Wars Fans Have Long Theorized Ahsoka Will Become The New Daughter

Ahsoka’s Mortis Gods Resurrects A Major The Rise Of Skywalker Theory

Rather than being dead or just communicating with Rey through the Force, many Star Wars fans believe that Ahsoka will transcend her current form and become the new daughter. The Mortis Gods were Force Wielders who each represented a different aspect of the Force: the Daughter was the avatar of light, the Son embodied the dark, and the Father maintained the balance between them. When Ahsoka was dying in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 3, episode 16 “Altar of Mortis,” the Daughter transferred the last of her life Force into Ahsoka before she died. Following the Daughter’s death, Ahsoka remained connected to her through a mysterious convor called Morai.

This makes Ahsoka the most qualified person to take the Daughter’s place among the Mortis Gods. Ahsoka has been revived through the Force, traveled into the World Between Worlds, and been friends with a being connected to the Daughter. Even though Ahsoka is no longer a Jedi, she has continued to embody the light and dedicate her life to helping others. Her experience with Anakin Skywalker in the World Between Worlds means she is ready to embark on the next stage of her journey, and Peridea is the best place for her to do just that.

Ahsoka Is Now Stranded On A Place Dedicated To The Mortis Gods

Baylan Skoll found statues of the Father and the Son on Peridea, revealing that the planet is dedicated to the Mortis Gods. With Ahsoka stranded on Peridea and having no way to return to the Star Wars galaxy, she can focus on averting whatever dark power is calling to Baylan through the Force. The absence of the Daughter’s statue seems to imply that the dark side has taken hold of Peridea, meaning that the light side is needed to restore balance. Ahsoka taking the Daughter’s place would accomplish this and elevate Ahsoka’s place within the Star Wars universe.

Morai’s appearance in the Ahsoka finale means that she will play a role, but Anakin’s Force Ghost may be even more crucial. As the Chosen One who brought balance to the Force, the Father always wanted Anakin to take his place, so Anakin can do it now if he hasn’t already. Baylan may fill the Son’s role by succumbing to the dark side, and another theory claims that he is being summoned by Abeloth from Star Wars Legends. If Ahsoka is destined to fill the Daughter’s role by embodying the light, all the pieces are in place on Peridea for it to happen.

Will Ahsoka Take The Daughter’s Place In Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Movie?

Dave Filoni and Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka.

The only remaining question is whether Ahsoka will take the Daughter’s place in Ahsoka season 2 or Filoni’s The Mandalorian Star Wars movie. Ahsoka‘s ending sees Grand Admiral Thrawn return to conquer the Star Wars galaxy, which will most likely be the focus of the Mandalorian movie. While Ahsoka season 2 will focus more on Peridea, there is a good chance she will play a role in Filoni’s Star Wars movie, so her taking the Daughter’s place may be saved until then. Whenever Ahsoka’s transformation happens, it is a compelling theory that recontextualizes Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and gives fans reason to be excited for Ahsoka season 2.
