Ahsoka Trailer: Grand Admiral Thrawn Arrives As Star Wars Does Heir To The Empire

Ahsoka Trailer: Grand Admiral Thrawn Arrives As Star Wars Does Heir To The Empire

Lucasfilm has finally released the first trailer for the upcoming Ahsoka Disney+ TV show. Originally voiced by Ashley Eckstein, Ahsoka Tano was the Padawan of Anakin Skywalker who fought by his side during the Clone Wars. The character has now made the transition to live-action, played by Rosario Dawson, and made her debut in The Mandalorian season 2. That was intended to serve as the launchpad for a Disney+ spinoff TV show, one in which the former Jedi would be able to shine after the end of the Galactic Civil War.

Now, Star Wars has begun the marketing push for Ahsoka at Star Wars Celebration 2023.

This included the release of the first Ahsoka trailer, setting up a spectacular adventure that will take its star into the Unknown Regions and beyond. It also featured the live-action debut of several other popular animated characters and teased the potential introduction of still more.

How Ashoka Will Explore The Larger Star Wars Universe

Ahsoka Trailer: Grand Admiral Thrawn Arrives As Star Wars Does Heir To The Empire

As the trailer indicates, the central conflict of Ashoka will be the rise of General Admiral Thrawn to the highest seat of power in the broken Empire. Thrawn has not been seen onscreen since Star Wars Rebels, and his fate was left unknown following the end of the series. With Thrawn set to return as a major force in Ashoka, it appears the Jedi’s old enemy will finally be making his live-action debut.

Another Star Wars Rebels returning character includes Mandalorian Sabine Wren, who can be seen in the trailer portrayed by Natasha Liu Bordizzo. Padawan Ezra Bridger, who disappeared alongside Thrawn at the end of the animated series, is also expected to make a return, though what happened to him and Thrawn following the end of Star Wars Rebels is still unknown. The return of both characters underscores how important Star Wars Rebels will be for Ashoka and the Star Wars universe overall moving forward.

With so many characters from Star Wars Rebels in particular set to make their live-action debuts, Ashoka is poised to be an action-packed thrill ride exploring multiple ideas not touched on in a live-action setting yet. Thrawn vying for Empire control also sets him up as a major villain in the unofficial “Mandoverse” time frame of Star Wars, which means this may not be the only place he appears. Even so, Ashoka will see the beloved titular character fight against his possible rise to power in an exciting series that debuts on Disney+ this August.
