Ahsoka Tano Was More Important To The Rebel Alliance Than You Though – So Where Is She In The OT Era?

Ahsoka Tano was an even more important figure for the Rebel Alliance than previously thought, making her disappearance on Malachor all the more concerning. A hero from her introduction in Star Wars, Ahsoka was forced into hiding following Order 66 like her fellow Jedi survivors. It was during her year in the Outer Rim that Tano began undertaking secret missions of good deeds, aiding those under the thumb of the Empire. After successfully liberating a town of farmers on Raada, she formally agreed to join Bail Organa’s Rebellion.

As the rebel spy Fulcrum, Ahsoka gathered intelligence about the rebels’ enemies and assisted small cells in their efforts. Her secondary mission was to learn about the Imperial Inquisitors and their mission to capture Force-sensitive children, a storyline that came to a head in Star Wars Rebels. With Rebels dedicating its time to the crew of the Ghost, Ahsoka was seldom seen among the rank and file of the Rebellion. Her official standing within the Rebel Alliances’ hierarchy was unclear, but a new source points to Ahsoka’s high status.

Ahsoka Was Officially A Commander In The Rebel Alliance

Star Wars: Dawn of the Rebellion confirmed that Ahsoka Tano served as a commander for the Rebel Alliance. This is the same rank she held in the Grand Army of the Republic as a Jedi, and also the highest point Luke Skywalker to ascended to in the original Star Wars trilogy. As a commander, Ahsoka had the authority to lead contingents of rebel troops during missions, though she largely elected to operate alone. Ahsoka’s official rank may be more procedural, however, as being a Fulcrum agent required a position within the Rebellion while the former Jedi had no desire to lead.

Ahsoka Disappeared After Star Wars Rebels’ Malachor Mission

Dawn of the Rebellion also notes that Ahsoka “mysteriously vanishes after a catastrophic mission to Malachor,” calling into question when she returned to her allies. The story of Ahsoka’s escape from Malachor has yet to be told, as has her initial bought of training Sabine Wren to be a Jedi. Had Ahsoka reappeared during the Galactic Civil War, surely she would’ve been eager to aid in the Rebellion’s efforts. But the duel with Darth Vader was so haunting that she may have simply chosen to stay away, instead doing good deeds across the galaxy while she hid from her demons.

The rise of Luke Skywalker and Anakin’s return to the Jedi changed everything. If Ahsoka was already off Malachor by the Battle of Endor, feeling the presence of her former master in the Force once more would be incentive to seek out the New Republic. She still acts as a Fulcrum agent in Ahsoka, even using the codename when making contact with flagships. While it doesn’t appear that Ahsoka Tano is a commander in the New Republic, her resurgence from Malachor was another win for the fledgling government that the rebels had previously believed a disaster.
