Ahsoka Is Telling The Biggest Dark Side Story In Star Wars History: Here’s All The Evidence

Ahsoka Is Telling The Biggest Dark Side Story In Star Wars History: Here’s All The Evidence

This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episode 3.Evidence is building that the Ahsoka Disney+ TV show is telling the biggest dark side story in the history of Star Wars. Starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, the Ahsoka Disney+ TV show is shaking Star Wars canon to the core. The main McGuffin is an ancient starmap, one that – according to Morgan Elsbeth – shows the pathway to Peridea. It’s currently unclear whether Peridea is the name of an entire galaxy, or simply a planet on the rim of said galaxy; either way, the scale of Ahsoka is breathtaking.

This is the first time Star Wars has ever really embraced the potential of the intergalactic. The old Expanded Universe (now branded non-canon, or “Legends”) toyed with the idea, introducing a race of warriors known as the Yuuzhan Vong who appeared to have traveled to the GFFA from another galaxy; but they were eventually revealed to be a home-grown threat, exiled from the galaxy and the Force millennia ago and turned around in the void between the galaxies. Ahsoka, in contrast, appears to be setting up a journey to another galaxy – and evidence is building that this is the biggest dark side story in Star Wars history.

7 Ahsoka Has Revealed The Galaxies Used To Be Connected

Ahsoka Is Telling The Biggest Dark Side Story In Star Wars History: Here’s All The Evidence

Ahsoka has revealed the galaxies were once connected, navigated by hyperspace routes based on the intergalactic migration paths of purrgil. Star Wars‘ space whales, purrgil are an unusual species whose bodies are able to metabolize a hyperfuel called Clouzon-36. It seems there are ancient legends that tell of races who traveled between the galaxies; the Jedi knew of one, a “fairy tale” related to Peridea, but Morgan Elsbeth has hinted there are others as well. These myths have already been proven true, with Morgan retrieving a long-lost starmap that will show her the way to Peridea.

6 The Language Of Ahsoka’s Starmap Is Linked To The Sith

Ahsoka End Credits

Ahsoka‘s credits show key planets on this starmap, written in a language that can actually be translated. This language may be more important than the planets named, though, because it appears to be related to one called ur-Kittât – famous for being used by the Sith. There have long been hints ur-Kittât predated the Sith; it’s known as the Old Tongue, and other, even older dark side cults have adopted it as well. But, disturbingly, Delilah S. Dawson’s Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade established that ur-Kittât is itself steeped in the dark side of the Force. It calls out to those who read it, fanning the flames of passion within them. If ur-Kittât was the language of Peridea, then this place must be strong in the dark side.

5 Nightsister Magick Is Able To Interact With Ahsoka’s Starmap

Ahsoka Morgan Elsbeth and Nightsister Magick

Ahsoka episode 2 saw Morgan Elsbeth activate the starmap at the reflex point that would allow her to navigate to Peridea. The episode further revealed she is a Nightsister of Dathomir, a race of beings who manipulate the dark side in ways even the Sith cannot duplicate. Nightsister magick is noted for its green flames, and it’s significant that Morgan summoned such energy to interact with the starmap and trigger it. It seems Nightsister magick is compatible with this ancient technology, perhaps hinting that it originates from Peridea. An extragalactic origin for the Nightsisters would explain why their powers are so unlike those of Jedi and Sith.

4 Purrgil Inspired Ancient Dark Side Wayfinders

Purrgils in Mandalorian Season 3

Purrgil have long fascinated viewers, and now it’s clear they have had a massive impact on (inter-)galactic history. According to the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Visual Dictionary, studies of purrgil brain chemistry inspired the first wayfinders – the dark side devices that guided Kylo Ren and Rey to Exegol. But Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2, episode 5 revealed wayfinders are older than the Sith. It saw Clone Force 99 discover a proto-wayfinder that guided them to the site of a structure that predated the Jedi and the Republic, one that contained a dark side superweapon.

3 Ancient Wayfinders Have Been Linked To Mysterious Dark Side Superweapons

The wayfinder connection is another data-point, reinforcing the possibility the ancient intergalactic ancients were strong in the dark side of the Force. Clone Force 99 found a mysterious giant walker with a powerful superlaser, one powered by crystals that – while familiar to viewers – operated slightly differently to kyber. It’s possible this superweapon was extragalactic in nature, and that this superweapon foreshadowed the introduction of its galaxy of origin.

2 Palpatine Sensed A Source Of The Dark Side That May Be Beyond The Galaxy

Another clue may well be found casting further back, to Chuck Wendig’s “Aftermath” trilogy. Although these were among the first novels published after Disney bought Lucasfilm back in 2012, they’ve proved surprisingly important to Star Wars canon – sometimes inadvertently. They even provided clues to Palpatine’s resurrection, years before Lucasfilm committed to the idea in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

In one scene, one of Palpatine’s closest advisers remembered back to the Dark Times of the Emperor’s reign. He recalled how Palpatine had become fascinated by a siren song he sensed through the Force, one that he believed could actually issue from the source of the dark side itself.

“The Emperor was convinced that something waited for him out there — some origin of the Force, some dark presence formed of malevolent substance. He said he could feel the waves of it radiating out now that the way was clear. The Emperor called it a signal — conveniently one that only he could hear. Even his greatest enforcer, Vader, seemed oblivious to it, and Vader also claimed mastery over the dark Force, did he not? Rax believed Palpatine had gone mad.”

Palpatine focused on the Unknown Regions, a vast unexplored part of the galaxy between the core and the galactic rim, but it’s possible he was sensing something that came from even further away – a summoning from Peridea.

1 Ahsoka Is Sure To Explore This New Star Wars Galaxy

Ahsoka training with a wooden staff

All this evidence suggests the Ahsoka Disney+ TV show is telling the greatest dark side story in the history of Star Wars – one in which Ahsoka Tano and her friends explore a galaxy that is the source of so much darkness. Morgan Elsbeth is completing work on the Eye of Sion, a ship with powerful enough hyperdrive units to make the jump to another galaxy. Ahsoka will surely either hitch a ride or (more likely) pursue Morgan via purrgil. In either case, it looks as though she’s set to find herself stranded in a galaxy far darker than this one.

Ahsoka releases new episodes Tuesdays at 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET on Disney+.
