Ahsoka Episode 8’s Narnia Title Is Deeper Than You Think

Ahsoka Episode 8’s Narnia Title Is Deeper Than You Think

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Ahsoka episode 8.

Ahsoka episode 8’s title links heavily to C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia series both on a surface level and in a deeper thematic way. The titles of Ahsoka‘s episodes have had multiple meanings pertaining to the events or characters of the respective installments. From episode 4’s “Fallen Jedi” to episode 6’s “Far, Far Away,” the episode titles for Ahsoka have been well-thought-out representations of the story being told and the deeper themes each installment includes.

Ahsoka episode 8’s title of “The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord” is no different. On a surface level, the title overtly references C.S. Lewis’ first Narnia book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. However, Ahsoka episode 8’s title actually does much deeper than being a direct reference to the title of the novel. This is made clear by Ahsoka episode 8’s ending which provides a dual meaning to the incredibly fun title Dave Filoni picked out for season 1’s final chapter.

Peridea Has Been Under The Sway Of The Witches For Millennia

As it turns out, the story of Ahsoka actually draws some parallels to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. In the latter story, the land of Narnia has been under the control of the White Witch for generations. This has caused the once-beautiful kingdom to become an icy wasteland full of monsters, dark creatures, and devoid of hope.

In Ahsoka, the same can be said for Peridea. Aside from Thrawn’s rule, the three Great Mothers of the Nightsisters are important figures on Peridea. Given that the planet is where the Nightsisters originated, Peridea’s connections to Narnia are prevalent given that both kingdoms have been under the influence of evil witches. This proves that Ahsoka episode 8’s Easter egg to The Chronicles of Narnia goes much deeper as further proven by Ahsoka and Sabine’s endings.

Ahsoka & Sabine Promise To Bring New Balance To Peridea

As of the end of Ahsoka episode 8, the Nightsisters of Peridea have left the planet and settled on Dathomir. In their place are Sabine and Ahsoka who are now stranded in the distant galaxy. This furthers the connections between Ahsoka episode 8 and the book from which its title is inspired.

In The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, the land of Narnia is freed from the tyranny of the White Witch by the Pevensie siblings. These travelers from a different world begin a new cycle of hope and prosperity in Narnia by freeing it from the clutches of the Witch. By Ahsoka‘s ending, Sabine and the titular Jedi have done exactly this. Peridea is free from the rule of witches and could now enter a new era of prosperity under the watchful eyes of the two Jedi from a distant land which would only further the deeper connections between Filoni’s latest Star Wars installments and the iconic works of C.S. Lewis.
