America’s Got Talent star Simon Cowell is engaged. Simon created AGT in 2006, while he was a judge on American Idol. He also judged all three seasons of The X Factor USA, another show he created. However, Simon didn’t appear on AGT until 2016 for Season 11 and has been on the panel ever since. He also was a judge on both seasons of AGT: Champions and will judge the new upcoming spinoff, AGT: Extreme alongside new judges Nikki Bella and Travis Pastrana. Terry Crews will host.
This isn’t the first time Simon’s been engaged. He came close to marrying make-up artist Mezghan Hussainy, who he dated for three years. Simon began dating Lauren Silverman, his fiancé, in 2004. They welcomed son Eric in 2014. Their relationship hasn’t been without controversy, as Lauren became pregnant with Eric while she was still married to her former husband, and Simon’s friend, Andrew Silverman. However, Simon and Lauren have stayed together for nearly a decade. Fans have wondered for a while if he would propose to her.
People reports that Simon proposed to Lauren on Christmas Eve in Barbados, where they first met. They were walking on the beach when he proposed, and Eric was present as well as Silverman’s son Adam. “They are both super happy,” the source says of the newly engaged couple. “They’ve been together a long time now and adore each other so it’s not a huge surprise to their close friends.“
While Simon’s fans have questioned whether or not he’d ever get married, his softer side has come out since starting a family. In 2018, he mentioned Lauren while receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: “Lauren, you’ve been my rock for the past few years, put up with everything I put up with.” In 2020, Simon’s family life was heavily publicized last year, when he broke his back right before the America’s Got Talent Season 15 live shows were set to begin. Simon heavily credited Lauren and Eric for helping him heal. Since then, it’s been speculated that Simon wants to settle down and spend more time with family. Simon even stepped down from his judging role on his new UK game show, Walk The Line.
Simon Cowell has changed a lot since becoming one of the most famous TV judges. From his nasty persona on American Idol to the softer side developed on AGT, perhaps finding love was a major part of his character change over the years. Now, if Simon does indeed marry Lauren, fans should be eager to see if Simon seems even happier when America’s Got Talent returns. AGT: Extreme is currently in production, after facing delays, and will likely premiere on NBC sometime this winter or spring.
