After 4 Years, Marvel Is Officially Bringing Back Spider-Man’s Green Goblin

Warning! Potential spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #50 ahead!Few villains have hurt Spider-Man like the Green Goblin has. But now, years after his last sighting, it seems the Green Goblin is making his return. Now Spider-Man will need to figure out if this Green Goblin is as bad as the one he knew.

Norman Osborn stopped being the Green Goblin when his sins were taken from him by the villain known as the Sin-Eater. Now, in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #50 by Zeb Wells, Marv Wolfman, Ed McGuinness, Terry Dodson, and more, it seems that those sins are making their way back home. Whether or not Norman will completely return to his villainous persona isn’t clear, but regardless, Marvel has promised a massive fight between the two characters.

Spider-Man Hates The Green Goblin More Than Any Other Villain

Amazing Spider-Man #50 Greg Capullo Cover

While Spider-Man has had tons of vicious enemies, no one has ever hurt him quite like Green Goblin. In addition to being responsible for the death of Gwen Stacy, the Green Goblin has faked Aunt May’s death, killed Ben Reilly, framed Spider-Man for murder, and dozens of other things. When Norman was initially being chased by the Sin-Eater, Spider-Man just abandoned him to die. It was one of the few instances where Peter didn’t save someone when he had the power to do so. But Green Goblin returning isn’t just an issue for Spider-Man.

Norman Osborn has been on a major redemption tour over the past few years. Having his sins devoured by the Sin-Eater, cleansed him of his evil, and he immediately gave up the Green Goblin and tried his best to become a hero. Norman became the Gold Goblin and tried to turn his reputation around. This included trying to help his grandson Normie Osborn with his symbiote, and battling demons invading New York. All of these were major heroic actions, and if Norman truly falls back into the Green Goblin persona, he’ll hurt a lot more people than just Spider-Man.

Norman Osborn’s Redemption Arc Is Officially Over

Amazing Spider-Man #50 John Romita Cover

Both Spider-Man and Norman have been through a lot lately, and it seems all of their problems are going to be directed at one another as they have a major clash, the likes of which haven’t been seen in years. While Spider-Man is perfectly used to fighting the Green Goblin and seeing him as a monster, the real victims here will be Norman’s friends and family. Osborn has tried to be an inspiration for them and make up for his past crimes, and how he’s going to let them down by once again becoming Spider-Man’s arch-rival, the Green Goblin.
