AEW Wrestlers With Roles In Percy Jackson, Iron Claw Movie Victorious At Full Gear PPV

All Elite Wrestling superstars Maxwell Jacob Friedman, who has a role in A24’s The Iron Claw, and Adam Copeland, who will appear in Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians, were among the victors at the AEW Full Gear pay-per-view. Full Gear was the first AEW pay-per-view held in Los Angeles, with 13,000 fans packed in the Kia Forum who roared their approval at the jaw-dropping spectacle of wrestling matches on the card. Among the notable events of Full Gear, it was the final California wrestling match of Sting, who will retire from pro wrestling in March 2024.

In the main event of AEW Full Gear, AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) defeated his nemesis, “Switchblade” Jay White. MJF is a 27-year-old phenom beloved by AEW fans, who consider him “our scumbag.” With his injured best friend, Adam Cole, at ringside, MJF overcame a debilitating leg injury to defeat White in spectacular fashion, securing Friedman’s historic one-year reign as AEW World Champion. Fittingly, MJF won his Full Gear title defense in Los Angeles, as the champ is an executive producer of the anticipated A24 pro wrestling film, The Iron Claw, starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White. MJF also plays Lance Von Erich in the film. Check out The Iron Claw trailer below.

In addition, here’s footage shared by @AEW on Twitter/X of MJF’s victory celebration at AEW Full Gear:

Adam Copeland, known as “The Rated R Superstar” and formerly Edge in WWE, teamed with Sting and Darby Allin (with Ric Flair in their corner) to defeat The Patriarchy, the group consisting of Christian Cage, Nick Wayne, and Luchasaurus, in AEW Full Gear’s opening contest. Copeland also has a featured role as Ares in Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Check out the Percy Jackson trailer below:

Timeless Toni Storm Victorious At AEW Full Gear

Ronda Rousey also made a surprise appearance for AEW.

At AEW Full Gear, “Timeless” Toni Storm defeated Hikaru Shida to become a 3-time AEW Women’s World Champion. The popular Storm reinvented herself as a silent film star, and AEW goes all-out by presenting her in black and white. Appropriately, Timeless Tony won the gold in what she dubbed her “Hollywood Homecoming.” Other victors at AEW Full Gear include Swerve Strickland, who defeated Hangman Adam Page in an unforgettably ultraviolent Texas Death Match, “The Ocho” Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega AKA The Golden Jets beat The Young Bucks, AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy conquered Jon Moxley, AEW World Tag Team Champions “Absolute” Ricky Starks and Big Bill won a brutal 4-way ladder match, and Julia Hart of the House of Black won a triple threat to become the TBS Champion, and the youngest champion in AEW history at just 22 years of age.

The night before AEW Full Gear, Ronda Rousey made a surprise appearance at the end of the AEW Collision/AEW Rampage broadcast at the Kia Forum. The former UFC and WWE Women’s Champion retired from WWE last summer, but Ronda wrestled a main event match for Maui relief at the Pro Wrestling Revolver UNREAL show on Thursday night. Rousey and Marina Shafir teamed to defeat Athena and Billie Starks in a match taped for Ring of Honor. Rousey is a global superstar who has appeared in films like The Expendables 3 and Furious 7, but AEW CEO Tony Khan said Rousey is not signed with All Elite Wrestling and worked a handshake deal on Friday. However, Ronda Rousey becoming All Elite is now a viable possibility.

AEW Dynamite airs Wednesdays on TBS, AEW Rampage airs Fridays on TNT, and AEW Collision airs Saturdays on TNT.
