Adam Sandler’s Next Movie Is A Lot More Important After New Rotten Tomatoes Disappointment

Adam Sandler’s Next Movie Is A Lot More Important After New Rotten Tomatoes Disappointment

Adam Sandler’s latest Netflix movie wasn’t a critical success, which makes his next movie a lot more important. Adam Sandler continues to be one of the most popular comedy actors, even if his movies aren’t always well-received by critics. However, Sandler hasn’t always focused on comedy projects, and he has made more serious movies over the years. Sandler’s most recent Netflix movie, Spaceman, falls into the latter category, as it’s a sci-fi drama directed by Johan Renck and based on the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař.

Spaceman follows Czech astronaut Jakub Procházka (Sandler), who leaves his pregnant wife, Lenka, to go on a six-month space mission to investigate a mysterious cloud of dust and particles beyond Jupiter. While Jakub struggles with loneliness and his deteriorating relationship with Lenka, he meets a spider-like creature he names Hanuš, who wants to understand humans better. Spaceman currently has a “rotten” critics label on Rotten Tomatoes (though a “fresh” one from the audience’s score), which makes his following movie a lot more important.

Adam Sandler’s Next Movie After Spaceman Is A Reunion With The Safdie Brothers

Adam Sandler already has his next project following Spaceman, which will reunite him with one of the Safdie brothers after working together in Uncut Gems. Sandler was previously attached to a project directed by the Safdie brothers in which he would have starred alongside Megan Thee Stallion. Sandler once shared that this project was set in “the sports memorabilia world”. However, this project was put on pause following the Safdie brothers’ creative split, even though, at one point, only Josh Safdie was going to direct the movie.

However, Sandler will still reunite with Josh Safdie for his next Netflix project. The still-untitled comedy special will be directed by Josh Safdie, this being his second project as a solo director after working alongside his brother, Benny, since 2009. As for the other project with Megan Thee Stallion, it hasn’t been officially canceled, and it remains “on pause”, so it’s to be seen if it will be Sandler’s second project with Josh Safdie or if it will remain in development hell.

Adam Sandler’s Next Safdie Brothers Movie Can Make Up For Spaceman’s Low RT Score

Adam Sandler’s previous project with the Safdie brothers not only holds one of his best Rotten Tomatoes scores, but it’s also one of his most acclaimed and praised movies to date. Uncut Gems has a 91% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, giving it a “fresh” label, though, interestingly, it has a 52% audience score. Ranking higher than Uncut Gems in Sandler’s filmography are the 2022 sports drama Hustle and the 2017 comedy-drama The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected).

With his previous Netflix comedy special ranking high with both critics and general audiences (with a 91% audience score) on Rotten Tomatoes and his previous work with the Safdie Brothers also getting a high score, Sandler’s next project with Josh Safdie is on its way to making up for Spaceman’s Rotten Tomatoes failure. It’s to be seen if the paused project with Josh Safdie will move forward in the near future and if there will be a Safdie brothers reunion with Adam Sandler at some point, but for now, his upcoming Netflix project with Josh Safdie is more important after Spaceman’s bad reception.
