Adam Sandler has produced and starred in many Netflix movies over the past few years, and a recently teased sequel will likely be better than his previous follow-up film. Sandler began working on original Netflix movies in 2015, and some of his titles included The Ridiculous 6, Sandy Wexler, and The Week Of. The actor and the streaming platform made their partnership official when Netflix and Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison Productions, agreed on a four-movie deal reportedly worth $275 million in 2020. However, Sandler has made more than four films for Netflix since signing the contract.
Since 2020, Sandler has made eight movies for Netflix — The Wrong Missy, Hubie Halloween, Home Team, Hustle, Murder Mystery 2, The Out-Laws, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, and Leo. All his projects have cumulatively received mixed reactions, with some being more favorable than others. However, two of Sandler’s films got sequels, one that premiered in 2023 and one reportedly in development. The upcoming sequel will likely be of higher quality than Sandler’s 2023 movie.
Leo 2 Will Almost Definitely Be Better Than Murder Mystery 2
During an interview with TheWrap, Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-chief executive officer, revealed that a sequel to Leo is being discussed. Sarandos said, “We’re kicking around Leo 2 right now. The animation team is firing on all cylinders.” Although Netflix has not officially greenlit a sequel to the 2023 animated musical comedy film, Sarandos’ comment (and the first movie’s success) indicates that it is inevitable. If and when Leo 2 premieres, it will almost certainly beat Sandler’s last sequel — Murder Mystery 2.
Even though both Murder Mystery films performed well on Netflix, it’s difficult to ignore that they are just bad movies. The first installment’s Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes is 44 percent, while the sequel’s is 45 percent (and the Audience Scores aren’t much better). Meanwhile, Leo‘s Tomatometer is 82 percent, and it had the biggest debut ever for an original Netflix animated feature. Leo 2 has everything going for it, including a precedent of an impressive performance and high quality, and Murder Mystery 2 only had the performance aspect. A Leo sequel is undoubtedly better suited for a follow-up.

Leo 2 Continues Adam Sandler’s Netflix Movie Turnaround
When Sandler began making movies for Netflix in the mid-2010s, most received negative reviews, and people began dreading his new releases. However, in recent years, the actor/producer started making all-around better movies, including Hustle, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, and, now, Leo. The animated feature continues Sandler’s streak, and even if Murder Mystery 3 happens, a sequel to Leo and other projects may indicate that he has made a positive turnaround on Netflix.
