Adam Driver Skipped House Of Gucci Wrap Party Because He Wanted To Go Home

Adam Driver skipped House of Gucci‘s wrap party because he really just wanted to go home. The Marine turned actor first rose to prominence for his supporting role in HBO’s comedy-drama series Girls alongside Lena Dunham. He then quickly transitioned to supporting roles in films from talented auteurs like Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, Noah Baumbach’s Frances Ha, and the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis, though he didn’t reach the level of stardom he is at today until his portrayal of the Star Wars sequel trilogy villain Ben Solo/Kylo Ren.

More recently, Driver has starred in a pair of Ridley Scott films, The Last Duel and House of Gucci, the former bombing badly at the box office which its ornery director blames on cell-phone obsessed millennials. House of Gucci fared much better with audiences, grossing $127 million at the box office, a significant haul for the pandemic era. In House of Gucci, Driver stars as the head of the Gucci fashion house, Maurizio Gucci, whose assassination is arranged by his ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), in hopes of her seizing control of the iconic Italian fashion brand.

In a recent interview with W Magazine, Driver revealed that he skipped House of Gucci‘s wrap party. The reason? He just wanted to go home and get his difficult character out of his system. Despite his absence from the wrap party, Driver still expressed admiration for his fellow cast and crew. Read what he had to say below:

In some ways, House of Gucci was the most difficult. I do not live in the same world as Maurizio Gucci. The way he picks up things that are valuable and discards them, the way he is the most elegant man — those qualities were interesting to think about. But after 14 hours a day of being a Gucci, I was ready for it to be over. I haven’t been to a wrap party since Girls. I just want to get the character out of my system and go home.

During the interview, Driver elaborated on how he tends to leave acting gigs immediately so he can begin detoxing the character from his system, saying he hasn’t been to a wrap party since Girls. Out of all his roles since then, Maurizio Gucci seems to have been the most taxing for Driver. It’s understandably difficult for actors to embody characters who are wholly unlike themselves for such a long period of time and everyone has their own process for recuperation.

Fans of Driver will know he has a propensity for shyness and reserved behavior, so it’s not unlike him at all to skip out on a social situation like the House of Gucci wrap party. This is not generally the norm for movie stars, but in Driver’s case, it has only endeared him more to his fans. Fresh off of a busy 2021, Driver will star in the sci-fi thriller titled 65 and another Noah Baumbach film, White Noise, throughout this year.
