Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons has an array of special characters that have quirky personalities and distinct roles within the franchise, but Pascal might be the wisest of them all. Many of these characters appear in multiple titles of the games and each offers the player something to do. Special characters never go unnoticed in the Animal Crossing world, and thanks to the addition of Brewster’s cafe, players can now drink coffee with their favorites. Pascal is one of these fan-favorite characters. Popping up in many of the series titles, this little red otter is known for his love of scallops and sage advice.
This nomadic water, wanderer spends the day traversing the ocean and waiting for ACNH players to come upon a scallop, hoping to acquire the item from the player in exchange for DIY recipes or pearls. This item trade seems to be the reason Pascal likes spending time near the island, unlike some of the Animal Crossing villagers that probably hate player islands, Pascal seems content to stick around. Even with bright red fur and an eclectic outfit, Pascal only appears in ACNH when a player dives for scallops, unlike other titles where the otter can be seen walking through the village. Aside from the character’s interesting look, this aquatic creature is known for having very intriguing thoughts to share.
Pascal Understands How To Keep Life Balanced
Sometimes the past takes up all the time of the present and takes away from the future. Pascal wants ACNH players to remember that the past may have highlights but that the future holds its own good days as well. Every new day is an opportunity to start fresh and enjoy the days to come. Similar to restarting an island in Animal Crossing, life moves forward and even though there was joy to be had on the last island, a new island can be just as fun.

Walking or running, the destination remains the same, no matter the speed traveled to get there. Pascal is conveying that a goal achieved is a goal achieved, regardless of the time it takes to get to it. The goal being completed now or later doesn’t change whether the goal can be reached or not. Whether the player wants to finally finish their museum by going on a collecting or fishing spree, or if they wish to design Animal Crossing islands for summer, Pascal wants fans to know, that achieving the goal is more important than the time it takes to complete it.
Enjoy It and It Will Never Be A Waste Of Time
Regardless of what is being done, if it’s something that is enjoyed, it should never feel like a waste of time. Some may feel that hobbies are unimportant and not worth the time but if it’s enjoyable, how can it be wasteful? Life is short and it’s important to do things that make it great so as to not lose out on the time that matters. If fans make Animal Crossing furniture in real life because it’s gratifying then Pascal seems to believe it’s worth the time to do it. Pascal’s wise words are a welcome addition to Animal Crossing: New Horizons and a lot can be learned from these brief interactions with the scallop-loving sea otter.
