This revelation is important because it never happened in The Wheel of Time books. According to Robert Jordan, the Forsaken just happened to be sealed away with the Dark One because of their proximity to him.
Although this change seems miniscule- whether the Forsaken were meant to be sealed away or not- it actually makes the story very different. In the books, the Forsaken were essentially just unlucky in their fate. Being sealed away for eternity certainly was not pleasant, but it was their closeness to the Dark One that caused it. On the other hand, the TV series proposes that Lews Therin wanted to seal the Forsaken away, and did it purposely. In this way, they were being actively condemned by Therin rather than just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This makes their story much more interesting.

Ultimately, Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time change makes the Forsaken better villains because it gives them a vendetta and a motive. Although the Forsaken are loyal servants of the Dark One, they all present their own unique threats and personalities. In this way, giving them a vendetta against Lews Therin and the Light Side makes them more dynamic villains. If they just happened to be sealed away, then there is less of a reason to be upset. But, with The Wheel of Time season 2 change, they now have something driving them to be evil.
