In the grand finale of Marvel’s A.X.E.: Judgment Day event, the Celestial causing the worldwide chaos and calamity is convinced that it’s capable of change, and when it reverses the destruction it caused on Earth, it gifts Ajak with its incredible powers. The power upgrade turns the hero into a god capable of taking down the planet herself.
In the A.X.E.: Judgment Day event from Marvel Comics, a war between the X-Men and Eternals led to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes reawakening the hollowed-out Celestial on Earth to stop the ancient heroes from wiping out Mutantkind for believing they were excess deviation. However, bringing the Progenitor back online created an even bigger problem. Upon seeing what Earth had become, the Celestial called for judgment of its people, deciding whether to keep the planet alive based on its rulings. Ultimately, the Celestial ruled that the Earth wasn’t worth saving, leading Iron Man, the Eternals, and the X-Men to venture inside the Celestial to try to activate its self-destruct protocols. But after its defeat, Ajak just gained god-like powers.
In A.X.E.: Judgment Day #6 by Kieron Gillen, Valerio Schiti, Ivan Fiorelli, Marte Gracia, and VC’s Clayton Cowles from Marvel Comics, the heroes meet the true form of the Progenitor, as the Celestial’s alien-like being works inside the space god as it enacts Judgment Day across the Marvel Universe. After Iron Man and the heroes convinced the Celestial it could change, it reversed its destruction. The Progenitor asks Ajak, their Eternal “maker,” whether they are worthy as a god, with the hero concluding it isn’t. The Celestial transfers its powers to Ajak as she gains the powerful abilities of her former god.
Ajak’s Higher Form As A Celestial/Eternal God Is Incredibly Powerful
When Ajak emerges with her god-like powers and appearance, she reveals she’s the Eternals’ new god that will strive to show she is worthy while they must continue to prove they are worthy of her. However, judgment is not just over one day but ongoing. The Marvel Comics story ends with Ajak wielding her cosmic might, hinting that every day is Judgment Day for Earth, and she has the power to destroy the planet if she determines they aren’t worth saving.
With Ajak’s power upgrade, she becomes the most powerful Eternal, simply due to the fact she’s now a Celestial also. Given her time with the ancient heroes and as Earth’s messenger for the Celestials, she’s the perfect hero to serve as a new god in the Marvel Universe and continue monitoring the planet as an ongoing form of judgment. Following the defeat of the Progenitor she gained her powers from, Ajak (well, the part of Ajak that bonded with the Celestial) is working to become undeniably worthy of her new god-like form.
