“A Simulator That’ll Make Every Moment Agony”: Babu Frik Just Became One of Star Wars’ Scariest Characters

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Star Wars #41

Star Wars is chock-full of incredibly terrifying individuals. From Darth Vader and the Emperor to entities like Sithspawn and Starweirds, there’s no shortage of horrific things lurking within every system throughout the galaxy far, far away. However, in Star Wars’ most recent installment, it’s revealed that none other than Babu Frik has just joined the ranks of those scariest characters in Star Wars lore – at least, to droids.

Babu Frik is a recurring character in Star Wars who was most prominently featured in Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, but who also made a few appearances in The Mandalorian. Frik is an expert in droid mechanics who rebuilds and repairs droids arguably better than anyone in the galaxy (which is why he has the attention of multiple main characters in Star Wars).

“A Simulator That’ll Make Every Moment Agony”: Babu Frik Just Became One of Star Wars’ Scariest Characters

During the era of the Galactic Civil War, Babu Frik knew Lando Calrissian, and their dealings actually left Babu Frik in Lando’s debt. This means that Lando could call upon Frik at any time to do a job for him, no questions asked. And one job in particular is truly gruesome, especially to a sentient droid, as Babu Frik has a way to essentially transport a droid’s consciousness to an eternal hell.

Babu Frik Can Create Endless Agony For Any Star Wars Droids

In Star Wars #41 by Charles Soule and Madibek Musabekov, Lando Calrissian is battling an army of Scourge-infected droids alongside Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Chewbacca. While that’s the immediate conflict, the true nature of this mission is to save Lando’s cyborg friend Lobot, who had been infected by the Scourge and was only just released from the clutches of its galactic hivemind.

Lobot is dying, and only one droid can save him – though it’s reluctant to do so. The talky droid knows Lando, and – more importantly – it knows Lando will kill it once its usefulness comes to an end. So, to inspire the droid to do as it’s told, Lando tells it that there’s a droid mechanic on Kijimi who owes him a favor, one who can “take out your core and wire it into a simulator that’ll make every moment of your existence agony”.

Babu Frik Is Star Wars’ Most Sadistic Marketable Plush

Star Wars' Babu Frik and Grogu.

The revelation that Babu Frik has the power to simulate eternal hell for sentient life forms in Star Wars is truly shocking, and it’s made even more so by the fact that Babu Frik is a little puppet and a perfect marketable plush for Star Wars, not unlike Ewoks or Porgs. However, unlike Ewoks or Porgs (even considering the Ewoks’ unparalleled bloodlust), Babu Frik has unchecked control over the eternal life force of a sentient droid, effectively acting as their god who can throw them into a simulated pit of hell for all eternity if he so chose to – and it’s implied Babu Frik has done this before.

Lando simply made a threat to this droid, he didn’t actually have Babu Frik condemn him to eternal damnation. But, how did Lando know Babu Frik could do that? Simple: Babu Frik has likely done it before. However, just the knowledge of how to achieve something so unfathomably horrific alone makes Babu Krik one of the scariest characters in Star Wars (even if Frik does look cute and cuddly).
