A Scream Opening Kill Is Being Remedied By Upcoming Sequel To .6M Horror Movie From 5 Years Ago

Samara Weaving was memorably killed as part of Scream 6‘s opening kill sequence, but that can be fixed in an upcoming horror sequel of hers. The Australian actress was no stranger to the horror genre before appearing in the Scream franchise. Her past work in horror includes Ash vs. Evil Dead, Mayhem, The Babysitter movies, and Ready or Not. The latter was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmakers behind 2022’s Scream and Scream 6, explaining Weaving’s cameo role, where she played the role of Laura Crane, a Blackmore University film studies professor.

Like the Scream franchise’s past opening kill scenes, Weaving’s Laura was an unsuspecting victim of Ghostface. However, Scream 6 utilized an additional twist beyond the first kill, setting the brutal tone for the sequel. After looking for her date outside of a New York City bar, Laura was killed in an alley by Tony Revolori’s Jason dressed as Ghostface. Granted, he later went home and was killed by one of the real Ghostface killers at the center of the movie. With Weaving’s upcoming horror sequel, her quick death in Scream 6 can finally be reversed.

Ready Or Not 2 Returns Samara Weaving To Final Girl Status After Her Death In Scream 6’s Opening

Ready Or Not Sequel Will Put Samara Weaving Back Into The Horror Role She Deserves

While Samara Weaving has been building an impressive filmography, one of her highlights will always be her role as Grace in 2019’s Ready or Not. Though a sequel isn’t officially confirmed just yet, the directors are teasing Ready or Not 2‘s script, and there’s an expectation that Weaving will return to her leading role. Weaving’s Ready or Not return could finally put the actress back into a satisfying Final Girl role that she embodied so well in Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet’s 2019 movie. In doing so, it would make up for her brief appearance and easy kill in Scream 6.

Weaving’s involvement in Scream 6 was fun, but those who knew her capability in horror movies were understandably frustrated with the fact that she was held to the opening scene kill. Sure, being killed off in a Scream movie’s opening scene is often viewed as an honor, but having Weaving in a more prominent role would have been more exciting. Ready or Not saw Weaving’s Grace find herself in a precarious and outright life-threatening scenario involving the family of the man she just married. Rather than hide as part of the deadly “hide-and-seek” game, Grace eventually fought back, violently killing several people before becoming the sole survivor.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett Can Continue A Fun Casting Trend In Ready Or Not 2

Samara Weaving and Ready or Not

Not only could a sequel put the actress back into a proper Final Girl role, but Ready or Not 2 could cleverly reverse Weaving’s Scream 6 death. Since the Le Domas family and their curse were at the center of the movie, it’s unclear how Grace would be pulled back into another deadly situation since her husband is dead. However, what the sequel has in store, Ready or Not 2 could allow Weaving to repay the favor by killing a character from one of Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet’s Scream movies.

It would be brilliant if Tony Revolori is cast and ends up being killed by Weaving as a way to flip the Scream 6 scene. Still, any notable cast member who worked with the directors could still be a worthwhile remedy to Weaving’s quick demise in the 2023 movie. Aside from Weaving appearing in two of Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet’s movies, Melissa Barrera also joined their latest movie, Abigail, after starring in their two Scream movies. It seems likely that they would welcome previous collaborators if Ready or Not 2 happens, so a fun Scream-inspired kill is possible.
