A Quiet Place 3 Release Update May Have Saved John Krasinski’s Horror Franchise From A Disaster

A Quiet Place 3 has been delayed and, although fans of the first two movies have been waiting since 2020 for the third film, this could actually be beneficial to the franchise. John Krasinski, best known for his role as Jim in the American version of The Office, wrote and directed A Quiet Place, which was released in 2018 and became an instant hit within the genre. The movie was not only praised by the critics and the audience, but it also turned out to be extremely profitable, earning almost 20 times its production budget (via The Numbers).

A Quiet Place spawned a sequel that was not as successful financially as the first one, but did well at the box office and was well received. After A Quiet Place 2‘s premiere in 2020, two more movies were announced, a prequel called A Quiet Place: Day One, and a third sequel that would complete the original timeline trilogy. Although the third movie was supposed to come out in 2025, it has recently been announced that A Quiet Place 3‘s release date has been delayed, which, despite being rather disappointing, could be good for John Krasinski’s franchise in the end.

A Quiet Place 3’s Delay Is Good – Because Of The Day One Prequel

Looking at the franchise history, there was a three-year gap between the first two films. It was initially supposed to be two years, but A Quiet Place 2 premiered in March 2020 and then the pandemic delayed the worldwide release to 2021. That period worked just great for the first two films. Now, A Quiet Place: Day One‘s trailer has already come out, and the film is scheduled to be released on June 28th, 2024, which would mean another three-year gap in-between movies. A Quiet Place 3‘s release overlapping with A Quiet Place: Day One‘s release might not be the best for the franchise, then.

A Quiet Place: Day One, which releases in 2024, is a spinoff prequel set at the start of the franchise’s apocalypse and featuring all-new characters.

Considering that the original plan was to release A Quiet Place: Part 3 in 2025, only one year after the release of Day One, the new timeline appears to be a better fit. The one-year gap could have been an over-saturation of the saga. Additionally, the fact that the performance of a prequel that isn’t directed by Krasinski himself can modify the level of excitement ahead of the release of A Quiet Place‘s trilogy ending is not that convenient. Giving a proper gap between films and waiting to see how the prequel performs seems to be the best choice.

A Quiet Place 3’s Release Timeline Means John Krasinski Can Return As Director

A Quiet Place 3‘s development delay not only means avoiding the death of the franchise, but it could also generate a major boost for Part Three. This change of schedule could allow John Krasinski to return as a director. During the constant delays in the past four years, Krasinski’s initial idea was to step down and allow Jeff Nichols to direct. However, A Quiet Place 3 lost its director in 2023. Not having a director and having some time to get free from other commitments might be the perfect context for Krasinski to return to the director’s seat for A Quiet Place 3.
