A Quiet Place 3 Can’t Seriously Bring Back Djimon Hounsou Without Solving 1 Odd Sequel Mystery

The third installment in the A Quiet Place franchise – A Quiet Place: Day One – will see Djimon Hounsou’s character return from the second movie, with the former having to answer an odd mystery from the latter. Originally, A Quiet Place: Day One’s release date was set for 2023. However, various delays meant that anticipation for the film only grew, with the first trailer for the A Quiet Place prequel/spin-off being released ahead of the film’s June 2024 release.

A Quiet Place: Day One Trailer Silences Noisy NYC With Apocalyptic Alien Invasion

A Quiet Place: Day One gets its first trailer, revealing a new look at the prequel spinoff movie and latest entry in the growing horror franchise.

The trailer details elements of the film’s story teased by its title. Unlike the upcoming A Quiet Place 3 story, A Quiet Place: Day One details the initial invasion of the franchise’s sound-hating aliens. As such, A Quiet Place: Day One‘s cast of characters will differ from the Abbott family featured in the first two movies. That said, one familiar face appeared in the trailer for the prequel, hinting that a big mystery about the character in question from A Quiet Place Part II will be answered.

A Quiet Place: Day One Finally Has To Reveal The Name Of Djimon Hounsou’s Character

A Quiet Place Day One Djimon Hounsou Return

The character returning to A Quiet Place: Day One is played by Djimon Hounsou, who appeared in the final act of A Quiet Place Part II. However, the latter film failed to reveal the name of the character. The film only credits Hounsou as “Man on the Island,” likely driven by his short role in the film’s climactic moments.

Although his character went unnamed in A Quiet Place Part II, A Quiet Place: Day One could resolve this mystery. The trailer makes it seem as though Hounsou’s character will play a much more significant role than he did in the second movie. This, combined with what is sure to be an alliance-based relationship with Lupita Nyong’o’s character, means that A Quiet Place: Day One can answer the Man on the Island’s biggest mystery.

Djimon Hounsou’s Return Already Sets Up A Tragic Ending For A Quiet Place’s Prequel

Lupita Nyong'o, John Krasinski, and Djimon Hounsou in the A Quiet Place franchise

Aside from the more simple matter of naming Hounsou’s character, his return proves that the ending of A Quiet Place: Day One will be suitably tragic. The Man on the Island is killed in the climax of A Quiet Place Part II. While this was a sad moment, the exhilaration of following the remaining members of the Abbott family and the lack of characterization given to Hounsou’s character meant it did not strike as strong an emotional chord as Lee Abbott’s death in the first movie did, for example.

That being said, the Man on the Island’s death will likely be made much more tragic by A Quiet Place: Day One. If the film provides Hounsou’s character with more depth, sympathy, and emotion, there is no denying that the story of A Quiet Place: Day One will only make the death of his character later in the franchise all the more upsetting. The promises an equally upsetting ending for A Quiet Place: Day One, leaving the as-yet-unnamed man played by the fantastic Djimon Hounsou off for what audiences know will be a relatively short future.
