A Murder At The End Of The World Is Hiding Its Biggest Clues In Plain Sight

Warning! This article contains spoilers for A Murder at the End of the World episode 4.

The Hulu murder mystery show A Murder at the End of the World is getting more and more obvious about the biggest clues to its core whodunit. The miniseries comes from Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling, the creators of Netflix’s divisively canceled drama The OA, and it has a lot of compelling elements helping the story advance, including its present day and flashbacks format, as well as its well-drawn characters. A Murder at the End of the World consists of seven episodes, and, after its halfway mark, there are a lot of big clues that help unravel the central murder mystery.

The first two episodes set the scene, placing the lead character, Darby (Emma Corrin), in the middle of nowhere at a billionaire’s retreat, surrounded by the world’s most brilliant minds. Although she had no idea what she was doing there, tragedy struck when her former boyfriend, Bill (Harris Dickinson) was mysteriously killed. Darby never doubted one moment that he was murdered, and she was determined to find out which of the guests, staff, or hosts killed him. A Murder at the End of the World episode 4, “Family Secrets,” is now proving that the biggest mysteries’ solutions are hiding in plain sight, with one shocking twist in the episode’s final minute seemingly providing answers to the central storyline.

A Murder At The End Of The World Episode 4 Recap: 8 Reveals

A lot happens in A Murder at the End of the World’s ep. 4, but eight revelations seem relevant for the murder mystery show’s future plot developments.

Andy Ronson Believes The End Of The World Is Imminent

The reason for the retreat is not to solve the climate change issues

The action in A Murder at the End of the World takes place in the present-day at a secluded retreat in Iceland, with Darby and Bill’s flashbacks seeing them travel the US. Clive Owen’s tech billionaire character, Andy Ronson, invited a number of important guests in A Murder at the End of the World, all of whom are important names in different technological sectors, especially AI. However, while Andy initially claimed that the retreat’s purpose was to find solutions to solve climate change, episode 4 proved otherwise, as it’s clear Andy Ronson believes the climate catastrophe will happen sooner than anyone thinks.

Although there are a number of signs that show that things around the world are heading towards a catastrophe, Andy Ronson has already taken measures. There are several hints on the show that Andy seems to have figured out the timing of the climate catastrophe, which is why he was in a hurry to get everyone together. At the beginning of A Murder at the End of the World episode 4, he moves all the guests underground, at the same time as Rohan’s (Javed Khan) murder, but that crucial move could be a coincidence.

The Superstorm Is Actually Global In Nature

The storm isn’t happening just in Iceland

Episode 4 shows that things are getting out of control in Iceland, but a detail proves that the storm isn’t happening just in one place. In fact, the radio broadcasts during the episode call it a “superstorm” and reveal that the whole world is affected, not just Iceland. Although it’s unclear to which extent, it’s getting more and more obvious that Andy Ronson had a bigger plan going on when he gathered everyone for the retreat.

All the details shown in episode 4 tend to suggest that the end of the world is happening now. At least, this is what Andy Ronson believes. He has taken numerous steps to hand-pick a number of crucial people, and he took desperate measures to impose a lockdown during the storm. Even with his conditions, Darby and Sian (Alice Braga) manage to escape and go looking for answers after Rohan and Bill’s deaths. The two even find climate-resistant suits, which hint at Ronson’s hidden agenda. However, after tracing Rohan’s steps back to his missing ship, they realize the storm is as serious as it gets, and they get into an accident, with the superstorm raging around them.

A Murder At the End of the World does an incredible job at dividing its seven-episode runtime between its massive roster of talented cast members.

All This Is Andy’s Attempt To Control Humanity After The Disaster

He mapped out his steps for success

Alice Braga as Sian and Emma Corrin as Darby in A Murder at the End of the World

A Murder at the End of the World is hiding its biggest clues in plain sight, especially when it comes to Andy Ronson. The tech billionaire did everything to make sure he survives the climate catastrophe. He wasn’t actually planning on saving the world, but wanted to make sure the new one is rebuilt after his own design. He built a controlled environment with pressurized suits and androids, and brought together the finest minds on earth. On top of that, episode 4 showed Andy also has medics and morphine, as well as Sian, who is experienced in traveling through space and isn’t fazed by the storm.

However, one thing he wasn’t planning on was murder. Andy seemed quite concerned after Rohan’s death, and he went to hide somewhere else instead of staying with the others, although it might just be a ploy to get everyone off his back. Ronson might want to be in control, but, with all the arrows pointing at him, it’s hard to believe he is the murderer. However, the ending of A Murder at the End of the World‘s episode 4 and its shocking twist seemed to confirm that Andy and Lee’s (Brit Marling) child Zoomer (Kellan Tetlow) could actually be Bill’s son, which means that Andy being capable of murder might not be that far-fetched.
