A Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Story by CLAMP Married Two Stardust Crusaders

Big manga series like Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure are popular targets for doujinshi, or self-published fan comics, and even well-known manga artists will make them. For Jojo, one of the wildest doujin happens to have been created by the famed manga art group CLAMP, best known for Cardcaptor Sakura, and kicks off with Jotaro and Kakyoin getting married.

While well known for original works now, CLAMP got their start in 1987 working on doujin for popular franchises. They had their first series properly published in 1989, known as RG Veda, but the group didn’t really hit it big until Cardcaptor Sakura began serializing in 1996. As such, they continued to create doujin based on other properties and published them in fanzines. An issue known as Clamp Laboratory 6, first published in March 1994, featured two chapters of a series called Jojo’s Bizarre Married Life, based on the Stardust Crusaders manga series which had ended about 2 years prior. The story then continued into their summer release with three more chapters, detailing a whimsical alternate timeline following the events of the manga.

In Jojo’s Bizarre Married Life, everyone survives the final battle of Stardust Crusaders and returns home. Jotaro invites Kakyoin to live with him after returning from Egypt and then forces him to sign marriage papers, which Kakyoin apparently does out of intimidation. Even DIO is still alive in this Jojo’s continuity, now Jotaro’s annoying sitcom neighbor who comes over in the morning to eat their breakfast but does little else antagonistic. In the second set of chapters, Kakyoin and Jotaro find an egg apparently containing their “love child,” which hatches into a young boy who looks like a mix between the two named Jouta. Jouta has the Joestar birthmark and quickly manifests a Stand of his own, a mix of Star Platinum and Hierophant Green known as Charmy Green (named after dish soap). The story then skips to 1999, where a teenage Jouta is given a chance to interact with his great-uncle Josuke Higashikata.

Jojo’s Bizarre Married Life Gave Jotaro His First Kid

Since this doujin was written in 1994, it predates Jojo’s part six, Stone Ocean, by six years and first predicted that Jotaro would have a child. Jouta is older than Jolyne, since his egg appeared in 1989 not long after their return from Egypt, while Jolyne was born in 1992 (the normal way, presumably). The comic is highly comedic in tone and is mostly meant for fans of the series to have a little fun imagining a particularly wild “what if” scenario. The story doesn’t waste time trying to justify any of its absurdities, instead taking the facts at face value just as the characters do. Kakyoin and Jotaro’s relationship has long been a favorite of shippers and fan fic writers since the anime’s debut, so it should come as no surprise that contemporary Japanese fan works focused in on the same pairing when the manga was still fresh. The Jojo’s Bizarre Married Life manga was successful enough for Clamp that Jouta appeared in the “CLAMP IN WONDERLAND” anime music video that was created for the group by Madhouse, alongside their own original works.

While this may not be canonical Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure content, it’s still a fascinating look into the start of a group that would go on to become one of the biggest names in manga, as well as a peak at what fans of Jojo were up to back in the mid-90s. After all, seeing Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure characters in Clamp’s signature style is unique enough to be worth checking out on its own.
