A Doctor Strange 2 Cyclops Cameo Makes More Sense Than Wolverine

A Cyclops cameo would make more sense than an appearance from Wolverine in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Both X-Men heroes are subjects of rumors regarding Marvel Comics characters who might show up in Doctor Strange’s next MCU adventure. If either was to appear, they’d likely be associated with whatever story Marvel has planned for Charles Xavier, who is believed to be a member of the MCU’s Illuminati team.

The reveal that Patrick Stewart is reprising his role as Professor X in Doctor Strange 2 was followed by a number of rumors about the X-Men. It’s been said that a new version of Wolverine will make his MCU debut in the film, which would be an exciting prospect, especially since the mutant is such a beloved character. In addition, there have been rumors of Cyclops appearing instead, with James Marsden once again playing his Scott Summers character from Fox’s X-Men trilogy. Marsden has refuted the rumors, claiming that he won’t be back to play Cyclops in Doctor Strange 2. However, this doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility of a new interpretation of Cyclops appearing in some capacity.

If Doctor Strange 2 were to include one of the two X-Men heroes as a surprise character, Cyclops would be the choice that makes the most sense. In the comics, Cyclops was hand-picked by Professor X to lead the X-Men, and after many years, he eventually evolved into one of the most important and influential leaders in the entire Marvel Universe. With his past, he would fit in well into a story that involves Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) meeting the Illuminati. Wolverine, on the other hand, would feel out of place amidst a group of powerful, multiversal authority figures.

Cyclops may not be an Illuminati member himself, but his reputation as one of Professor X’s most trusted confidantes gives credence to the idea that Professor X might seek his counsel in Doctor Strange 2. And if a version of Cyclops shares a history that’s anything like the comic book version of Scott Summers, he would have the leadership experience needed to have a say in any important matters about the fate of the multiverse. Wolverine, for his part, has been known to share a rapport of his own with Professor X, but mixing with the Illuminati is a role that would better serve a born leader like Cyclops, who would even be a suitable replacement for Xavier if he were to die in Doctor Strange 2.

There’s also the question of whether or not it’s truly time for Wolverine to be making an appearance in the MCU. Hugh Jackman’s portrayal was such a highly celebrated take on the character that it may be best if Marvel avoids creating unnecessary comparisons for the time being. It’s a different situation with Cyclops though, considering that he was significantly less important to Fox’s X-Men movies and is in much greater need of a big-screen cameo. Through an appearance from an experienced Cyclops from a different universe, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness can lay the groundwork for a young version to make his debut and possibly lead the MCU’s first X-Men team.
