In Superman: Lost #7 by Christopher Priest, Carlo Pagulayan, and Lee Weeks, Lois Lane meets with Superman’s most bitter enemy, Lex Luthor. After a few words, Lex cuts to the chase and says what Lois is thinking: She wants him to do something dramatic that will help Superman snap out of his funk. Lex agrees and reveals that his work is already done because he’s used micro-targeted radiation to give Lois pancreatic cancer. Lex calls it a “devil’s bargain” and asks her to get a second opinion and to tell Superman when she’s sure. A somber trip to a doctor reveals that Lex was not lying and that Lois does indeed have cancer.

As the number one enemy of Superman, Lex Luthor has done some pretty reprehensible things over the years. He’s tortured people, destroyed Metropolis and even killed Kryptonians. While it’s definitely not out of character for Lex to do something like this, giving Lois cancer is far beyond the pale. Not only did he make Lois sick, but he also gave her one of the most aggressive and insidious diseases on Earth. Superman has always held back when it comes to Lex. But now that Lex has seriously endangered Lois, Clark might do the unimaginable.
