A Classic One Piece Villain Returns For a Big Rematch With Luffy

Warning: SPOILERS for One Piece #1062One of the most iconic One Piece villains has returned and he is on a collision course with the Straw Hats captain, Luffy. Rob Lucci is back, and he is leading a team of the World Government’s secret agency, CP0, headed for Egghead Island to kill the genius scientist Dr. Vegapunk. However, Luffy and his friends are also currently on Egghead, meaning that fans will soon see a rematch of the epic battle against Lucci on Enies Lobby.

The Enies Lobby Arc was a turning point for One Piece‘s story. After Nico Robin was kidnapped by Government agents, Luffy realized that he needed to get much stronger to protect his nakama and defeat the powerful enemies found on the Grand Line, personified during that arc by Rob Lucci, the strongest member of CP9. To beat Lucci, Luffy had to evolve his powers for the first time, debuting both Gear Second and Gear Third during that arc. After the battle, however, Lucci survived, and he even climbed the ranks of the World Government’s secret agencies, earning a spot in the fearsome CP0.

The powerful group of spies and assassins has been ordered to eliminate the World Government’s top scientist, Dr. Vegapunk. In chapter #1062 of One Piece, Lucci, along with fellow members of CP0 Kaku and Stussy, is seen on a ship headed for Egghead Island. Kaku is explaining how Vegapunk has created 6 bodies for himself, besides the original one, so they will need to kill them all to get rid of the scientist while being careful not to damage anything of value in his lab. What they don’t know, however, is that the Straw Hats have also recently arrived at Egghead and have just met with Vegapunk (two of them, actually).

Rob Lucci Is Getting A Rematch, But Is He Still A Challenge For Luffy?

It is still unclear why the World Government wants to eliminate one of its most precious resources. Vegapunk has been building weapons and advanced scientific tools for them for years, but it seems that, now that the new Pacifista cyborgs are ready, the scientist has outlived his usefulness. What is certain is that Luffy and Lucci are on a collision course, and the reunion between the two will not be a peaceful one. However, fans are wondering how this could be a fair fight at all. Luffy has awakened his Devil Fruit’s true, powerful abilities, besides having mastered Conqueror Haki. Regardless of how much Lucci has improved since their last encounter, it seems unlikely that he will pose a real challenge to the current Emperor of the Seas.

It should be remembered that Lucci also has eaten a Devil Fruit, a Zoan-type that gives him the powers of a Leopard. Perhaps, if Lucci has also awakened his Devil Fruit, this is the chance that fans have been waiting for to see how an awakened Zoan actually works. Hopefully, with this fated reunion between Luffy and Lucci, One Piece is about to deliver a rematch to one of the most epic and dramatic fights in the long history of the manga.
