Karine and Paul were first seen in 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 1 in 2017. Paul was going to a very remote area of the Amazon region to meet Karine, whom he’d found online after taking an interest in “Latin dating.” The Louisville, Kentucky man had a communication issue with Karine, despite which he asked her to take an STD and pregnancy test as soon as he reached Tonantins. It was just the start of Paul and Karine’s bizarre storyline.

Paul and Karine split in December 2021 after a clip showing the couple in an alleged physical fight in their Kentucky home circulated online. Karine filed a restraining order against Paul in the same month and claimed she was hurt and abused by Paul. She dropped the restraining order in March 2023, but the damage had already been done.
