Despite viewers having mixed feelings about 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? couple Andrei Castravet and Libby Potthast, it looks like TLC may be gearing up for a spin-off. Fans are surprisingly on board, just not for reasons the network would like. Andrei and Libby have become one of the least favorite couples from the franchise, and as much as fans dislike the couple, they’re even more critical of Libby’s extended family. It seems strange that fans would support a spin-off featuring Andrei, Libby, and the Potthasts; however, there are ulterior motives at play.
The tensions between Andrei and Libby, and the rest of her family have reached a fever pitch on this season of Happily Ever After?, though some fans suspect their scenes are staged. Andrei has been trying to worm his way into his father-in-law Chuck’s business that also seems to employ all of Libby’s siblings. Chuck took the entire family out for a boat trip and it ended up a complete disaster. Libby’s siblings blew up at Andrei, and Libby ended up siding with her husband and got into a shoving match with her sister.
The dramatic boat scene stuck out to viewers as especially scripted, and it’s making fans think that the network is developing the Potthast/Castravet storyline for an eventual spin-off. Fans have put the Potthast family on blast for their bad behavior, and it’s surprising that TLC would want to showcase such a hated couple and family. However, there are many fans who want the spin-off to come to fruition only because they want the Potthasts off the main franchise.
“I fully support a Family Libby spin off. That’s the only way they’ll stop appearing on 90 Day Fiancé,” a fan said about the possible spin-off. Many commenters referenced The Family Chantel and Darcey & Stacey as similar spin-offs with controversial cast members who are no longer in the main franchise. However, there were some fans who said they would legitimately watch the spin-off if there was some kind of twist, like Libby’s father Chuck dismantling the family business and forcing his children to make their way in the world without his help.
Andrei, Libby, and Libby’s family aren’t proving very popular on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, so it might be a gamble for TLC to try for a spin-off. It seems that a significant number of fans want the Potthast family to get a spin-off just so they can boycott it, which isn’t a great start to a series. Fans may love to hate the Andrei and Libby storyline, but that doesn’t mean they want a whole show devoted to them. If the network does decide to go that route, they might regret it in the long run.
