An eagle-eyed 90 Day Fiancé fan recently spotted a major editing slip up in a recent episode of Love in Paradise: The Caribbean that completely shattered the illusion of “reality” TV. Love in Paradise is one of the more recent spin-offs of the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. The series follows relationships that take place between Americans and their love interests who reside in countries in the Caribbean. Many fans have praised the show as one of the best and most captivating in the franchise, and the popular spin-off is currently airing season 2. There are mostly new couples in season 2, but one of the returning couples are Amber Graney and Daniel Salazar.
Amber and Daniel are a tumultuous couple who spent the entirety of Love in Paradise season 1 attempting to secure Daniel’s K-1 visa so he could move to the U.S. to be with Amber. In the finale of season 1, Daniel arrived in Florida, and an episode of 90 Day Diaries featured his and Amber’s wedding at the end of his 90 days. Season 2 features Amber and Daniel adjusting to married life, and it has so far been a bumpy ride. Amber has been frustrated that Daniel was unable to work for several months due to his immigration status. A previous episode showed an explosive fight between Daniel and a drunken Amber, and it’s clear the couple has a lot of work to do on their marriage.
In a recent episode, Daniel planned a surprise romantic dinner to help him and Amber reignite the romance and passion in their relationship. It was also during this dinner that Daniel surprised Amber with the news that he received his Green Card and could now legally work. It was poignant moment, but at least one Love in Paradise viewer was distracted by a couple important details. Reddit user abanay02 pointed out that there are noticeable inconsistencies in the scene. At the beginning of the scene, Amber is sporting sparkly gold nails, but after Daniel pulled out his Green Card and Amber gave him a hug, her nails suddenly changed to multiple pastel shades. Amber is also wearing a necklace in the second half of the scene that she was not wearing at the “start” of her dinner with Daniel.
The scene was supposed to take place over the course of a single evening, but Amber’s suddenly-changing nails and accessories indicate the first and second half of the scene were filmed at different times. This isn’t the first time that fans have found out that 90 Day Fiancé production has done reshoots, but it appears that in this case the reshoots weren’t even done on the same day. Perhaps production thought that there would be more emotional impact on the audience if Amber and Daniel’s romantic dinner and Daniel’s Green Card reveal took place on the same night. However, due to the major continuity error, the entire moment just feels staged and fake.
A similar editing scandal arose during the currently-airing 90 Day Fiancé season 9 during a segment with Ariela Weinberg and Biniyam Shibre. When Ariela shows up at Biniyam’s gym to confront him for training with a female MMA fighter, viewers noticed that the visible straps of her sports bra changed colors partway through the scene. Just like the moment between Amber and Daniel on Love in Paradise, Ariela’s color-changing bra made it clear to fans that TLC’s idea of “reality” TV bears little resemblance to actual reality.
