One of the reasons that make Big Ed such a famous face on reality TV is his distinct physique. Big Ed has a rare condition called Klippel-Fiel syndrome. He has been open about being body-shamed and cyberbullied online because of his neck. However, Big Ed does have a neck. It’s just that he has three vertebrates the size of two when most other humans have seven. His bigger-than-normal chest cavity led to him being bullied all his life. After initially sharing a cryptic post about preparing for surgery, Big Ed filmed himself from his hospital bed in a patient gown and spoke about how he was getting ready to have a “rotator cuff” surgery. Liz dropped him off at the hospital, and he was getting ready for pre-op. Big Ed looked composed in his “cute little gown with matching slippers.” Big Ed told his 90 Day Fiancé fans that he would see them “on the other side.” According to Healthline, the rotator cuff is a combination of muscles and tendons that link the upper arm bone, the humerus, to the shoulder blades.
Leading up to revealing the details of his surgery, Big Ed posed with Liz for several romantic photos, which he made into a slideshow and shared with fans. In the pictures, both of them looked happy as they held each other and sweetly kissed for the cameras. “Date night before my surgery!” Big Ed wrote on top of the video. Without giving any further details of what he was getting operated for, he only tagged Liz in his caption. In the comments, fans asked Big Ed, “what surgery,” and asked him to “be safe.” Some guessed that Big Ed was getting gastric sleeve surgery to lose weight like his 90 Day Fiancé co-stars Angela Deem and Tiffany Franco Smith. A few other social media users commented on Big Ed’s height and asked if he was going to get a “vasectomy reversal,” a “circumcision” or a “shoulder lowering surgery.” As expected, the disrespectful comments under Big Ed’s post wondered if he was getting “legs surgery” to “lengthen” his legs.
The surgery used to repair a tear in one of these tendons is known as rotator cuff repair. It seems the surgery will help Big Ed in reducing or completely eliminating his shoulder pain.
