There has been a lot of drama surrounding 90 Day Fiancé star Paul Staehle’s disappearance in Brazil. 90 Day Fiancé fans met Paul and Karine Martins when the duo made their reality debut on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days in 2017. After meeting online, Paul flew to Brazil to meet Karine, and the duo’s romance grew exponentially. Despite their age gap and minor hurdles, Paul and Karine married. However, after their marriage, the couple’s relationship started deteriorating.
Although they welcomed kids Pierre and Ethan, Paul and Karine’s marriage soon became ugly, involving various cheating allegations and physical altercations. However, after the news about their separation in December 2021, the ex-couple was mainly out of the news for a long time. However, Paul recently made headlines after ex-wife Karine shared some concerning details about his well-being.
Paul’s Ex Karine Alluded To His Death Online
On August 31, 2023, 90 Day Fiancé fans were shocked when Karine suddenly posted worrying news about her former partner on her Instagram story. Karine‘s story, which she uploaded, read, “Paul went missing last night in Brazil. Prayers he is found safe.” However, Karine’s next posts soon got fans wondering if she was playing a sick joke, as they were about the breakfast sushi she ate and a message of “live laugh love” to her followers.
Nonetheless, she posted an update much later, revealing she still had no news about Paul’s whereabouts. Karine also explained that Paul’s female friend Izabele Medeiros was leading the search efforts to find Paul. Paul and Izabele were romantically linked after he left Karine. With Izabele leading the search, there were hopes Paul would soon be located.
Still, things went from bad to worse when Karine’s next Instagram post suggested Paul might’ve been found dead. She shared a video compilation of her pictures with Paul and their two kids, Pierre and Ethan, which she captioned, “Not all of our memories were bad. Our children loved you very much. We will never forgot [sic] you or the good memories we all shared.” Karine’s post raised many alarms about Paul’s well-being, and it looked like only a matter of time before he was confirmed dead. However, Karine refused to confirm any news or explain her weird post and caption.
Paul’s Mother Didn’t Hear From Him For Days
After Karine’s confusing updates about Paul’s disappearance, reports soon emerged that the 90 Day Fiancé star’s mother, Mary, had confirmed the concerning news about her son. According to Mary, there was no fresh news about Paul’s whereabouts, and he had not responded since he contacted her on August 30, 2023.
Nonetheless, Mary provided more detailed information about what led to Paul’s disappearance, explaining, “He was lost and pinged me his location to try and get a friend to help. He told me he messed up, was alone, which was really stupid, and his phone was about to die.” According to Mary, Paul gave her three names for her to contact; however, since this all happened late at night, they only responded the following morning. However, she believed and prayed that her son was okay.
Paul Reached Out To A Blogger Confirming He’s Alive
After days of worrying about Paul’s well-being and whether the 90 Day Fiancé star was alive, fans received some respite when blogger John Yates shared an update confirming Paul was alive. In an Instagram post, John shared a voice message from Paul where the 90 Day Fiancé star noted, “Hey John, it’s Paul, in a small indigenous community. My signal is insanely bad, and hopefully, you’ll be able to get through to me.” John also added in the caption that Paul had spoken to his mom. The news provided much-needed relief about the well-being of the 90 Day Fiancé alum.
Paul Says He Was Never Missing In Brazil
Due to the drama surrounding Paul’s mysterious disappearance in Brazil, there was a lot of skepticism about the authenticity of the whole escapade. Nonetheless, when he spoke to TMZ about his alleged disappearance, Paul confirmed those doubts. The 90 Day Fiancé alum explained he has been living alone in Manus, Brazil and decided to go on a boat trip with a fan of the reality show to clear his head. However, the trip was cut short after their boat developed some mechanical issues mid-way into the journey. After his companion left briefly, Paul got scared, making him contact people for help.
Thankfully, they were able to fix the boat, and they continued their trip. Still, Paul could not allay his folks’ fears back home because he didn’t hold a phone charger, and the cell reception at the floating house was poor. Paul denied his alleged disappearance was a publicity stunt and claimed his mom was quick to assume the worst. Paul also explained he was shocked by how viral the news had gone and the shocking media reactions. Although the initial news was quite concerning, it feels good to know Paul is fine, and hopefully, the 90 Day Fiancé alum will be better prepared next time he decides to go on a boat trip.
