Two months into its incredible theatrical run, The Eras Tour movie became available to rent on demand on December 13, 2023 (Swift’s 34th birthday). Now, the concert movie is finally coming to streaming on March 15, 2024, with an exclusive Disney+ release titled Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version). This version will finally show the entire concert for the first time and feature more bonus songs, making it very different from the theatrical release, but the experience of streaming Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on Disney+ itself will also be different from watching it in theaters in many ways.

8 Viewers Won’t Have To Deal With Audience Members Singing or Screaming Too Loud

Watching Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour On Disney+ Eliminates Disruptions

Watching Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour from the comfort of one’s own home also eliminates the risk of surrounding moviegoers ruining the viewing experience by creating excessive noise during the concert movie. While it’s expected and encouraged for attendees to sing along to the songs and cheer and applaud at appropriate times, some Swifties took the excitement a little too far at certain screenings by absolutely screeching and sobbing, drowning out Swift’s singing and disrupting the rest of the audience. By streaming The Eras Tour movie on Disney+, viewers can avoid these disruptions and enjoy Swift’s musical stylings.

7 Viewers Won’t Get To See Other Moviegoers’ Eras-Themed Costumes

One Of The Perks Of Seeing Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour In Theaters

Taylor Swift Eras Tour look what you made me do

Along with friendship bracelets and fan-created chants, one of the biggest trends to emerge during The Eras Tour was dressing up in Swift-related costumes. This could mean dressing in the colors or lyrical aesthetics of a certain Taylor Swift era, wearing specific red carpet, interview, or music video looks of hers, or crafting an outfit that serves as a reference to a Swiftie inside joke. This trend carried over into The Eras Tour movie screenings with moviegoers showing up in full Eras-inspired looks.

Of course, nobody’s stopping viewers from dressing up to watch Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour at home as well. Still, one of the downsides of watching The Eras Tour movie on Disney+ instead of in theaters is that viewers won’t get to see other audience members’ Eras Tour-themed costumes. This trend helped maintain the sense of community and camaraderie from the live shows and was one of the best parts of going to see The Eras Tour movie in theaters.

6 Viewers Can Take A Bathroom Break Without Missing Any Songs

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie Is Nearly Three Hours Long

While it’s worth every second of its lengthy runtime, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie is two hours and 45 hours long, and the actual live show itself is even longer. It’s not uncommon for Eras Tour concertgoers to choose a less-favored tune as their designated bathroom break song, and the same was true for moviegoers in theaters. However, now that audiences will be able to pause The Eras Tour while watching the movie on Disney+, they won’t have to miss a single second of the action if they have to step away for a moment.

5 Viewers Can Rewind & Fast Forward To Their Favorite Parts

Another perk of watching Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on Disney+ as opposed to in theaters is having access to control features. Viewers can rewind to previous parts of the concert movie and fast-forward through other parts as much and as many times as they please. This allows fans to rewatch any preferred performances and favorite moments or take another look at a detail they might’ve missed. Unlike in theaters, viewers can also rewatch The Eras Tour movie in full as many times as they want on Disney+ for no extra charge.

4 Access To Subtitles Will Allow Viewers To Follow Along With The Lyrics

Subtitles Can Provide A More Comprehensive, Inclusive, & Immersive Viewing Experience

Many theaters offer screenings with closed captions so that attendees who are hard of hearing or have audio processing issues can understand the dialogue, music, and other sounds occurring in a film. However, given the popularity of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour in theaters, it’s likely that some fans were not able to get tickets to a closed-captioned screening. As a result, they may have had trouble following along with the lyrics at their screening or did not attend at all.

Thankfully, while watching The Eras Tour movie on Disney+, viewers can use the subtitles feature to access closed captions that describe and relay the audio of the movie, which includes song lyrics. This will make it easier to identify which song is playing and follow along with the lyrics. Subtitles can also help newer or less-familiar Swifties and Swiftie-adjacents to learn the lyrics to unfamiliar or less popular songs and sing along if they so please.

3 Viewers Will Get A New Surprise Song Experience

Taylor Swift: The Eras On Tour On Disney+ Will Have Four Additional Acoustic Songs

Taylor Swift performs

When Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was made available to rent on demand, it featured three additional Taylor Swift songs from The Eras Tour set list that were cut from the movie’s theatrical version: “The Archer,” “Long Live,” and “Wildest Dreams.” Since the Disney+ version promises to show “the entire concert” for the first time onscreen, the previously cut “Cardigan” has also been added back in. Disney+’s Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour will also include four bonus songs from the acoustic section of the concert.

Every show on The Eras Tour has an acoustic section, in which Swift performs one surprise song from her vast catalogue on guitar and one on piano. Out of the six total surprise song performances that were filmed for the movie, Swift chose to include “Our Song” and “You’re On Your Own, Kid.” She has not disclosed the names of the four bonus songs in the Disney+ release, but assuming she’s only using footage from the same three L.A. shows, only four surprise songs remain: “I Can See You,” “You Are in Love,” “Death by a Thousand Cuts,” and “Maroon.”

However, the fact that Swift has not confirmed these are the “four additional acoustic songs,” even though they’re presumably the only acoustic surprise songs that could be on Swift’s The Eras Tour Disney+ release, is suspicious. It means that there’s a possibility that at least some of the bonus songs featured in the Disney+ release will not be performances from the filmed L.A. shows. Either way, viewers will get four more songs from the acoustic section in the Disney+ version than the theatrical version had, creating a unique bonus song experience.

2 Taylor Swift’s Album Of The Year Win At The Grammys Will Make The Closing Era Extra Special

When Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was first released in theaters on October 13, 2023, the 2024 Grammy nominations hadn’t even been announced yet. By the time the 2024 Grammys ceremony took place on February 4, 2024, The Eras Tour movie had already left theaters. Swift ended up winning two of her six nominations, including Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year for Midnights, making her the first artist to ever win Album of the Year four times.

Swift’s recent Grammy wins for Midnights give a new connotation to the concert movie.Watching the Midnights section of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on Disney+ will be extra exciting now that it’s not only a two-time Grammy-winning album, but also marked an incredible, unprecedented milestone in Swift’s career. The Midnights era also closes out the whole concert, meaning the already celebratory finale will be even more special.

1 Taylor Swift’s Upcoming Album Means Not All Her Eras Will Be Featured In The Concert Movie

Taylor Swift Is Releasing Her New Album On April 19, 2024

Taylor Swift Eras Tour The Man

During her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2024 Grammys, Swift announced that her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, will be arriving on April 19, 2024. While this news is exciting, Swift’s announcement makes watching The Eras Tour on Disney+ a different experience. Swift will likely adjust The Eras Tour’s set list to include songs from the new album once it drops, but because the concert movie comes to Disney+ over a month before The Tortured Poets Department is released, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour won’t feature any songs from this new era.

This means that once TTPD drops, The Eras Tour movie on Disney+ will no longer include every era of her career like it did while it was in theaters. Of course, her debut era is already missing from The Eras Tour’s regular set list, but Swift made sure this era was at least somewhat represented in the concert movie by including “Our Song” as one of the surprise songs. Unless an unreleased song from TTPD is somehow included as bonus content in Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on Disney+, the absence of this new era changes the nature of the concert movie as a comprehensive representation of all her musical eras.
